Oliver Ames Boys' Hockey Soundly Defeats Stoughton

The Tigers defeated Stoughton, 9-0 Wednesday night.

The Oliver Ames hockey team soundly defeated Davenport Division foe Stoughton Wednesday night at the Asiaf Arena in Brockton.

The Tigers scored more goals than they had in a game all season to beat the Black Knights, 9-0. With the win, Oliver Ames improved to 6-4-1. Stoughton dropped to 1-9-2.

While OA came away with an easy victory, it had trouble finding the net in the early minutes. The Tigers out-shot the Black Knights in the first period, 29-3, but were only able to find the back of the net twice: A goal from senior Jimmy Waitz with an assist from junior Colin Lozzi and a Thomas McNeely (SR) goal with an assist from senior Justin Davinder.

"We were all over them but could not put the puck home," OA coach Jim Sullivan said. "We are having a problem putting it in the net. That was a great bunch of kids [Stoughton coach] Dan Mark is coaching to just go out and play day in and day out."

Sullivan and Mark credited Stoughton junior goalie Paul Sheehan with keeping the Black Knights in the game.

"He was terrific," Mark said.

Overall, though, the onslaught of shots was too much to handle. OA out-shot Stoughton in the game, 69-12.

"[OA] is an experienced team," Mark said. "We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores."

Oliver Ames added on to their 2-0 lead in the second period with three more goals. Senior Andrew Mancini scored unassisted on a breakaway with 10:43 left in the period. Just over a minute later, senior Andrew Romans scored with an assist from both Davinder and senior Sean Kyne. Sophomore Albert Basse scored as time wound down in the period with an assist from sophomore Thomas McCormack.

In the third period, junior Nick Charlston scored off a Basse and McCormack assist just over a minute in. Juinor Matt Campanella scored off a Charlston assist two minutes later. Mancini added his second goal as time wound down, and junior Mark Dimartinis scored off an Eddie Deveau (SR) assist.

All but one of OA's goals were scored by the third and fourth lines.

"It was nice to see the third and fourth line step up and come through for us," Sullivan said. "We really needed this game to get back on the right track for upcoming games."

Oliver Ames will play Brockton Saturday at Asiaf Arena at 7:40 p.m.

That game will be preceeded by Stoughton's game against Milford at 5:20 p.m.
