Oliver Ames Boys' Soccer Advances to South Sectional Semis With Win Over Walpole

Tigers win 2-1. They will play Weymouth Thursday night.

The Oliver Ames boys' soccer team will have its playoff rematch with Weymouth.

The Tigers beat Walpole, 2-1 Tuesday night at Brockton High School to advance to the South Sectional Semi-Finals. Waiting for them is No. 2 Weymouth, who the Tigers fell to in the 2010 tournament. The game is set to be played at Taunton High School at 7:15 p.m.

OA's momentum gained slowly Tuesday night. After finishing the first half in a scoreless tie, Brandon Boone nailed a goal in the 17th minute of the second half. Chris Goncalves gave OA an insurance goal with 5 minutes left.

As it turned out, OA needed the insurance. Walpole scored in the final five minutes, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Tigers.

A win Thursday will earn OA a trip to the South Sectional Finals to play either No. 1 Needham or No. 4 Dartmouth. OA's season record now stands at 15-2-4.
