Oliver Ames Golf Team Captures MIAA D2 South Title

Sam Minsky leads way with best in field score of 75

The Oliver Ames Tigers proved to be the best Div. 2 golf team in southern Massachusetts Monday.

The Tigers placed first in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association South Sectional Tournament at Easton Country Club, edging second place Mansfield.

The 18 hole, metal play tournament was both a team and an individual competition. Nine teams, with six players each, plus four individuals whose teams did not qualify, made up the field of 58.

The Oliver Ames Tigers captured the top spot in team competition with a team score of 216.

Scoring for OA were Sam Minsky (75), Nick Carter (78), Josh Gurman (80), and James Shalhoup (83)

The Mansfield Hornets captured the second spot with a score of 218.

OA and Mansfield topped a field that consisted of Bishop Feehan, Catholic Memorial, Franklin, King Philip, Sharon, Walpole, and Wellesley and the top four scores from each team counted.

In individual competition for OA, Sam Minsky (low medalist) and Nick Carter were among the eight players who advanced to the individual championship. 

The MIAA Div. 2 team and individual championship will be held Monday, Oct. 29, at Gannon Country Club in Lynn.
