Making a Pine Quilt Rack: Preparing the Sides

Quilt racks make great gifts.  You can make this one in a few hours from a pine 1 x 8 x 8.  Here’s the next step in the project.  To learn more about preparing the materials, read Making a Pine Quilt Rack: Getting Started at: http://easton-ma.patch.com/groups/the-green-woodshop/p/making-a-pine-quilt-rack-getting-started.

Drill (6) pilot / plug holes about 3/8” deep in each side panel at the following locations:

(2) 27 5/8-in up from bottom edge & 1 1/8-in over from each side

Make the decorative cut-outs on the bottom of the sides. V-shaped notches, arcs, and keyholes all work well.  The pattern should start 1 ¾-in from each edge and be between 3-in. and 6-in. high.  Save the wood from the cut-outs for the plugs.

Cut (12) plugs with a 3/8-in. plug cutter (available at home centers for about $10)
