Quilt racks make great gifts. You can make this one in a few hours from a pine 1 x 8 x 8. Here’s the next step in the project. Drill (6) pilot / plug holes about 3/8” deep in each side panel at the following locations:
(2) 27 5/8-in up from bottom edge & 1 1/8-in over from each side

(2) 28 5/8-in up from bottom edge and 1 1/8-in over from each side
(1) 10 7/8-in up from bottom edge, on center

Make the decorative cut-outs on the bottom of the sides. V-shaped notches, arcs, and keyholes all work well. The pattern should start 1 ¾-in from each edge and be between 3-in. and 6-in. high. Save the wood from the cut-outs for the plugs.
Cut (12) plugs with a 3/8-in. plug cutter (available at home centers for about $10)
