OA Softball Takes Pivotal Game Against Stoughton

5-3 victory puts Tigers in Davenport Division driver's seat.

The Oliver Ames softball team defeated Stoughton, 5-3 Monday afternoon to take a critical divisional match-up. With the win, the Tigers improved to .500 with a 7-7 record and moved into the Davenport Division drivers seat as the season winds down. Coach Lindsey Allison's Tigers didn't make it easy on themselves, though. "There’s something about this team," she said. "They love to play with the bases loaded. They love to bat with two strikes. It’s just great to know that if their backs are against the wall they’re not going to give up." Stoughton, which dropped to 6-9 overall and fell into a tie with Sharon for second place in the division, stranded the bases loaded twice in the game: once in the fourth and once in the sixth. Athlete of the Week

OA Athlete of the Week: Golf and Tennis Captain Bobby O'Donnell

A Hock All-Star in golf, O'Donnell is also a leader on the tennis court.

It was somewhere near the middle of the second set in his match against Franklin’s Brian Barker where everything started to click for Bobby O'Donnell. Down 4-1 and giving up the first set, O’Donnell came back after being able to play closer to the net resulted in some valuable points. “That was a big point, especially when I had the wind with me being able to hit deeper shots,” O’Donnell said. With his opponent’s frustration building along side his patience. While OA fell to Franklin 3-2, O’Donnell slowly came back to win game, and then the set, and eventually the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. “He was trying to win it outright after the second of third hit instead of being patient. When he was patient he won the point so he just out toughed him,” …

OA Football Could See a New Playoff Format

The new format could go into effect in 2013.

Wednesday, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament football committee voted 15-2 for a plan which would dramatically change the sport by adding a new playoff format with more teams qualifying and a different divisional set-up beginning in the 2013 season, according to the Boston Herald. The Board of Directors will make a final decision in June. The goal of the proposed plan is to have state champions in all six divisions instead of just the East, and Central-West champions. The six finals would be at Gillette Stadium. Oliver Ames would be in a playoff division with farmiliar Hockomock schools North Attleboro and Stoughton. Soon-to-be Hockomock rival Milford will also be in the bracket along with North Quincy, …

Williams and Reeves to be Honored by National Football Foundation

The Easton natives and Ohio State football recruits from Catholic Memorial will be honored for academic excellence as well.

Armani Reeves and Camren Williams, of Easton, will be honored next Monday at Lombardo's in Randolf by the National Football Foundation for excellence in athletics and academics. Catholic Memorial's Williams and Reeves made headlines last winter for their decision on where to attend college and play football. Originally Reeves - a runningback and defensive back, and Williams - a linebacker, had chosen Penn State. The two switched their minds to Ohio State, however, after scandal erupted in Happy Valley involving alleged sexual assault incidents and cover-ups.

Explosive Sixth Inning Propels OA Baseball to Hock Win Over Attleboro

Tigers score 8 in the 6th to snap a two game skid.

The Oliver Ames baseball team got more hits in the sixth inning Monday afternoon they it had in the previous 12. After being no-hit by a trio of King Philip pitchers in Sunday's 3-1 loss, OA had trouble manufacturing runs in the first five innings of Monday's bout with Attleboro at Frothingham Park. But, traling 2-1 in the sixth, the OA offense exploded with eight runs on six hits to lift the Tigers to a 9-2 Hockomock League victory over the Blue Bomardiers. "They’ve been snake bit," OA coach Leo Duggan said. "They haven’t hit the ball very hard lately. In the sixth inning it was justified that we got some hits. Give the kids credit." Senior Matt Ingargiola led off the rally with a single and fellow senior Ryan O'Shea followed suit. After …
