With camp winding down and the first Oliver Ames games this week, Patch sat down with Bill Matthews, who took over in June as Oliver Ames' new Athletic Director. You’re an Easton resident. How long have you lived here? Since 1989. So, 23 years. When you saw the job open up for Oliver Ames Athletic Director, why did you decide it was something you wanted to pursue? It was time for a change. I needed to make a change in my career and I never really considered that this position would be open. OA's future Athletic Director appeared before the Easton School Committee last week.
Oliver Ames Principal Wes Paul was at last Thursday's Easton School Committee meeting to introduce his new athletic director, Bill Matthews, who will begin at the start of the 2012-2013 school year. Matthews, who is a former NFL and USFL linebacker, said he had already begun the process of meeting people, and he was excited to get started. "I’m really looking forward to the opportunity," he said. "I’ve had the opportunity to meet some folks and start to begin the process." Matthews said he hadn't considered applying for the position until he saw the position open. Current OA AD Jim Von Euw announced his resignation earlier this year. Matthews replaces Jim Von Euw, who announced his resignation for the end of the year.
Easton resident, Bill Matthews, a former NFL linebacker, was named as the New Athletic Director for Oliver Ames High School beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year, Principal Wes Paul said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “This marks the beginning of a new chapter in OA Athletics History," Paul said. "Oliver Ames High School and the community of Easton are fortunate to have Bill Matthews filling this important role.
