Easton's Lauren Battista led Bentley to a spot in the "Sweet Sixteen" after beating Holy Family Saturday.
Former Oliver Ames standout Lauren Battista scored 21-points at the Bentley College women's basketball to the Division 2 Sweet Sixteen with an 85-56 win over Holy Family University in Waltham. The No. 1 seeded Falcons improved to 29-1 on the season. The junior forward is now just four points away from 1,500 for her career. The Falcons, who reached Sweet Sixteen for the 19th time in 26 years, will host third-seeded Dowling College Monday at 7 p.m. in the regional championship game with a trip to San Antonio for the Elite Eight awaiting the winner. The Golden Lions earned their first-ever regional championship berth with a 57-45 win over Stonehill College.

After making a return trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight and advancing to the national semifinals, former Oliver Ames standout Lauren Battista and the Bentley University women's basketball team is ranked second in Division II preseason by Women's Division II Bulletin. The only team ranked higher than coach Barbara Stevens' Falcons is the team that ended their season a year ago, national runner-up Ashland University. T Bentley returns its top four scorers and a total of nine players from last year's team, which finished 31-4 while repeating as NCAA East Region, Northeast-10 regular season and NE-10 playoff champions. (Press Release from Bentley University) One day after earning Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® honors, Bentley University sophomore forward Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS) has been selected by the conference coaches as the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Battista was also a unanimous choice for first-team All-Conference honors. (Press release from Bentley University) Bentley University sophomore forward Lauren Battista (North Easton/ Oliver Ames HS) has been selected for the 2012 Capital One Division II Academic All-District 1 Women's Basketball Team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District 1 includes the Northeast-10 Conference, the East Coast Conference and the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference. Battista will now advance to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration. That team is scheduled to be announced Feb. 22.
