AROUND TOWN: School Walkways Cleared

Although school was closed Monday, most of the walkways to and around Easton's schools have been cleared.

  In the midst of clearing Easton's roads while the Blizzard of 2013 dumped two feet of snow on the Shovel Town, Department of Public Works crews also focused on clearing walkways near public buildings, according to an update from Sunday night. Although there is no school Monday, walkways leading to the schools are mostly cleared. The pictured walkway leads up Lothrop Street towards Oliver Ames High School and was taken Monday morning. While walkways along school roads and parking lots are cleared, the newly constructed walking path connecting Easton Middle School, Olmsted Richardson, Parkview and Lothrop Street has not been cleared.

Heavy snow is expected ton continue throughout Saturday morning in Easton, according to the National Weather Service. Easton residents can expect to see snow, mainly before 3 p.m., according to the Weather Service, with wind continuing at 22-26 mph in the Shovel Town. Gusts may reach as high as 36 mph. New snow Saturday is expected to accumulate by another five to nine inches. Eventually, however, the storm will exit Easton and the entire east coast according to WHDH's Pete Bouchard. Town of Easton Under State of Emergency

A declaration was made by the Board of Selectmen Friday morning.

The Town of Easton is officially under a state of emergency. Selectmen made the determination during an emergency meeting at 11:30 Friday morning as the Blizzard of 2013 rolled in. The action takes effect beginning at noon. "We want to reinforce the message to keep cars off the road," Town Administrator David Colton said. "This declaration of emergency gives police greater authority to tow if cars are blocking the road." The state of emergency was declared under the advice of Governor Deval Patrick, who urged municipalities in the commonwealth to take the action.
