Cronin is officially the representative of Precincts 1-5 in Easton and a portion of Brockton.
Claire Cronin is officially the state representative for the majority of Easton. The Easton resident was sworn in last week as a member of the 188th Massachusetts State Legislature. She was accompanied by Easton students Kate McLaughlin, Molly Alexander, Sarah Alexander, Rory McLaughlin, Kristen Alexander, Darragh McLaughlin, and Conor McLaughln. The freshman rep said she is already taking actions to shape policy for the Shovel Town and Brockton. "I am honored to serve this district," Cronin said in a statement. "I feel a great responsibility to serve the people of this district well. I have reached out to members of our local government to set up meetings to discuss how we can best work together. I hope to meet with community leaders in …

Owen O'Leary's Restaurant and Pub hopes to open in Westborough before St. Patrick's Day.
Owen O’Leary’s Restaurant and Pub plans to open its third eatery – a brewpub – at the former Piccadilly Pub on Connector Road in Westborough, targeting before St. Patrick’s Day. The move will end a four-year search for a new home for the brewpub that was at the Hampton Inn in Natick, Owen O’Leary’s owner Kevin Gill said Monday night. The Natick location closed in 2008, ending 12 years there, he said. The restaurant currently has locations at 50 Turnpike Road, Southborough and 1280 Belmont St., Brockton, on the Easton line. Gill said he has signed a 20-year lease for the space at 17 Connector Road in Westborough, contingent on the proper permits. A Dec. 11 liquor license public hearing with selectmen is next. A late February-early March …

The Tigers beat Brockton, 3-2 Sunday and advanced to play Whitman Hanson Tuesday.
It certainly wasn't easy, but the Oliver Ames girls' soccer team was able to squeak by Brockton Sunday evening in a thrilling MIAA South Sectional first round match-up. Propelled by Clarissa Romero's second goal of the game with 8:41 remaining, Oliver Ames beat Brockton 3-2 and advanced to the South Sectional quarterfinals where they'll play Whitman Hanson Tuesday night. "They gave us all we could handle," OA coach Britt Sellmayer said. "We got one more chance than they did and we took care of it. Both teams had a lot of chances." The Tigers took advantage of their chances in the first half. Freshman Delaney Benton scored with an assist from Nikki Taylor at the 24:43 mark of the first half to give the Tigers a 1-0. Shortly after, at the …

The 11th Plymouth District State Rep candidates Claire Cronin (D-Easton) and Dan Murphy (R-Easton) debated on Brockton Community Access earlier this month. Topics included jobs, the economy, retiree health insurance, and schools. The debate was moderated by Brockton Community Access general manager Mark Linde and a panel consisted of Brockton Democratic City Committee Chair Steven Foote and Brockton Republican City Committee member David Heidke. Murphy, an accountant and selectman, and Cronin, a mediator, are looking to replace Geraldine Creedon (D-Brockton) in the state legislature. The district is made up of Precincts 1-5 in Easton and all of Ward 1, Ward 3-D, Ward 7-C and 7-D in Brockton. Cronin was unable to participate in an Easton …

Claire Cronin is running as a Democrat for State Rep in the 11th Plymouth District
When it comes forging compromise and bringing together parties, Claire Cronin is an expert. After all, that's what she does every day. "As part of my background I’ve been a mediator for 10 years," she said. "Often times when you sit back and you watch what goes on in government. As a mediator sometimes I see that there's ways things can be done that they’re not being done – both on a national level and on the state level." Cronin is hoping her skills as a mediator and experience as a public servant help get her elected as a State Representative in the 11th Plymouth District, which makes up Precincts 1-5 in Easton and all of Ward 1, Ward 3-D, Ward 7-C and 7-D in Brockton. A native of Brockton and current resident of Easton, Cronin is …

The Brockton City Councilor will be on a Democratic Primary ballot Thursday, Sept. 6
Last year at this time, Brockton City Councilor At-Large Robert Sullivan didn't know he'd be spending his summer knocking on doors in Easton and on the west side of Brockton. But, around the same time last winter, two unanticipated events occurred. Sullivan, a Brockton resident who had lived in the 9th Plymouth District (and had lost a State Rep Democratic Primary in that District in 2008 by 13 votes), found that his house had been redistricted to the 11th Plymouth. And, the State Rep representing the 11th Plymouth, Geraldine Creedon (D-Brockton) announced that she would not run, thus leaving an open seat on Beacon Hill. "I didn’t expect where I live to be taken out of the 9th Plymouth and put into the 11th Plymouth district," he said. "…

George Allen, a school resource officer for the Easton Police Department, was one of the public safety officials from the local area recognized at the Brockton Rox's celebration of the annual National Night Out Against Crime.
George Allen of the Easton Police Department was recognized for his work as a resource officer in the Easton Public Schools Tuesday night at the Brockton Rox's celebration of the annual National Night Out Against Crime. Allen was among the public safety officials and residents from 11 area towns honored for having a positive impact on their communities. Each honoree received a plaque on field during the August 7 game, a contest between the Rox and the visiting Seacoast Mavericks. After a 32-year career with the Easton PD, Allen is retiring in December of this year. He has been a school resource officer in Easton since 2006. From 1999-2003 he also worked with Easton's youth as the police department's D.A.R.E. [Drug Abuse Resistance …

Mark Linde (D-Brockton) puts emphasis on education, jobs, taxes, public safety and senior citizens in race for State Rep in 11th Plymouth District.
It's no surprise that if Mark Linde is elected State Representative, he wants to set up a district office on the Easton-Brockton town line. After all, that's where he feels most at home. Linde was born at Goddard Hospital in Stoughton, graduated from Brockton High in 1979 and continues to work in the area today. He is the General Manager of Brockton Community Access Television, the Chair of the Southeastern Regional School Committee and a teacher at Massasoit Community College in Brockton. Giving back to the community where he grew up, lives, and works is a key reason behind his campaign for State Representative in the 11th Plymouth District, made up of Precincts 1-5 in Easton and all of Ward 1, Ward 3-D, Ward 7-C and 7-D in Brockton. "I …

State Rep candidate Jass Stewart says he stands for the middle class.
Jass Stewart certainly isn't new to the Brockton political scene. The second term city councilor at-large ran two unsuccessful campaigns for mayor in 2005 and 2007 before a successful bid for city councilor in 2009. A Dallas native, he said one of his major challenges early on was proving he was committed to serving the city of Brockton - an area he had moved to and adopted as his home. Now a well-known face in the City of Champions, he is hoping to ensure the same trust in the residents of Easton. "I think I’ve demonstrated that there are advantages to moving to a place where I want to be," he said. "I’m going to bring that same philosophy to my work in the district for Easton. I’ve already started going to the meetings in Easton so I …
