Professional hockey has a kinship and bond with the blue collar and working class that no other professional sport enjoys. A lot of this has to do with that of the four major pro sports leagues – Major League Baseball, the NBA, the NFL, and the NHL – NHL players, on the average, make the least amount of money. For sure, NHL players are wealthy – very wealthy. Just not as wealthy as the pro baseball, pro basketball, and pro football players. The more money you make, the more difficult it is to stay grounded and in tune with the working man and woman.
