New Deal Close For Nearby Casino, Governor Says Governor Deval Patrick and the Mashpee Womponoag Tribe reportedly close to finalizing an agreement for a $500 million casino 10 miles from Easton on the intersection of Route 140 and Route 24 in Taunton. Patrick said Thursday that his administration has reached an agreement-in-principle on a revised casino compact with the Mashpee Womponoag tribe, according to the Boston Herald. Easton Music Teacher Looks to Share Craft With Others Harris Shilakowski got his first taste of music when he was 6-years-old. “I just totally fell in love with it,” he said. “I went home to my mom and said I’ve got to play the violin.” Shilakowski is now a music teacher in Easton running the Easton Music School, and he plays in string quartets and other groups throughout the area. He said he’s played in orchestras all over New England and has played with many classical musicians. Shilakowski learned and studied with Boston Symphony Orchestra first violinist Leo Panasevich. TELL US: Should Mass. Blue Laws Be Eliminated?

Blue laws prohibit retailers from opening before midnight on Black Friday.

Black Friday is starting earlier than ever, as some national retailers have announced they will open the night of Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 22. However, here in Massachusetts, state blue laws prohibit stores from opening until midnight, according to a report by the Boston Globe.  Current blue laws prohibit retailers in the state from opening on Thanksgiving, thus preventing them from getting an early start on Black Friday sales, according to the Globe article. Some exceptions are restaurants, health care facilities and gas stations.  The laws, instituted in the 17th century, are intended to make sure holidays are properly observed, according to the Boston Globe.  Are Massachusetts' blue laws outdated? Home Sales Up in Easton

A new report says home sales have increased in Easton from May 2011 to May 2012. Year-to-date sales are also up in town.

Easton saw 10 home sales in May 2012, an increase from May 2011 when there were 6 home sales in town, according to a new housing report. Easton also has had 49 home sales, year to date, up from 39 in 2011, The Warren Group reported. Overall, home sales in Massachusetts were up nearly 35 percent in May, the largest jump since June 2010, according to the firm.
