VIDEO: Oliver Ames Girls' Basketball Standout Caitlyn Abela Scores 1,000th Career Point

Abela scored on her second basket of Wednesday's game against Medfield to earn a spot in the 1,000 point club.

Oliver Ames' Caitlyn Abela joined a prestigious club Wednesday night. The senior girls' basketball captain became the latest OA player to join the 1,000 point club. With the accomplishment, her name will be added to a banner in the Nixon Gymnasium at Oliver Ames. The milestone came midway through the second period of the Walpole Tournament Championship game against Medfield, which OA lost 61-55. Abela added 12 more points to finish the game with 16. "I’m really excited," she said. "A lot of the people on the banner are really great players, so it’s really awesome to be a part of that. Oliver Ames Girls' Basketball Downs Franklin For Season-Opening Win

Led by Caitlyn Abela's 24 points, OA got off to a hot start to the season

The Panthers didn't go down without a fight, but in the end the Oliver Ames girls' basketball team out-muscled, out shot, and out defended Franklin. The defending Davenport Division Champion Tigers won their season opener, 57-48 Friday night over the defending Kelley-Rex Division Champion Panthers at the Nixon Gymnasium in Easton. "The whole thing in a nutshell is we played good defense and we just did such a terrific job off the boards," Oliver Ames coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook said. Oliver Ames Girls' Basketball Standout Caitlyn Abela to Play at Sacred Heart University

Abela signed a letter of intent to play at the Div. 1 college Monday afternoon.

Oliver Ames girls' basketball standout Caitlyn Abela signed a letter of intent Monday afternoon to play basketball at Div. 1 Sacred Heart University. Abela, who helped lead Oliver Ames to a combined 36-8 record over the last two seasons, saw the Northeast Conference school in Connecticut as the perfect fit. "I really like the basketball team and the coaches and the campus," she said."I want to major in physical therapy and they have a really good program there." She signed the letter of intent with Oliver Ames Athletic Director Bill Matthews, Oliver Ames coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook and her parents, Diann and Mike Abela.
