Question of the Day: Casino Downside vs. Upside

Does the downside outweigh the upside when it comes to casinos in Massachusetts?

We'll be asking Easton Patch readers a different question every weekday. Questions could range from local decisions made by officials, to state issues, to national politics and entertainment. Whatever it is, we want to know what EASTON thinks! Today, Governor Deval Patrick signed a Massachusetts gambling bill that would make casinos legal in Massachusetts. While proponents argue that the bill will create more jobs, tax revenue and entertainment options, opponents fear a nearby casino could hurt local businesses, create crime and increase traffic congestion. Raynham Park, just over the Easton border, has been rumored as a possible casino site. Do you think the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to casinos in Massachusetts?

Should former lawmakers be allowed to work for casinos?

The Massachusetts State Senate approved a bill yesterday that called for a timeframe of one-year before a former Massachusetts lawmaker could take a job at a casino. The bill was approved after much discussion and was a "watered-down" version of a previous bill that called for a five-year ban.
