Southworth began as a meter reader when he was 21 years old in 1969. He has served with every DPW Director and Town …

Wayne Southworth, longtime public works employee and current DPW Director will retire at the end of the year.
Wayne Southworth was first added to the payroll of the Town of Easton when Richard Nixon was the President of the United States. Now, 42 years later, the long-time public works and water department employee, and Easton's current Director of the DPW, is announcing his retirement. "I’ve been planning this probably over a year," he said. "It’s a number of factors. I’ve had a tremendous career here, over a lot of years. It’s just that time of life when I wanted to retire." Southworth told Easton Town Administrator David Colton of his plans and Colton made the announcement at Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting. "He’s certainly had a great impact on this town, most notably with the water system," Colton said. "He’s someone I rely on, …

We're asking Easton Patch readers a different question every weekday at noon. Questions could range from local decisions made by officials, to state issues, to national politics and entertainment. Whatever it is, we want to know what EASTON thinks! To answer, use our comments section below. This week, Easton is distributing 96-gallon recycling barrels to all recycling customers in Easton. The new barrels will replace the old bins beginning July 25. No other containers will be accepted in addition to the 96 gallon barrel. The town of Easton received a $42,000 water conservation grant from the state.
It didn't take long for the town of Easton to develop some environment-friendly initiatives to kick off the New Year, with a series of projects aimed at conserving water in town buildings and educating Easton residents on water conservation. The funds for Easton's initiatives will come from a $42,000 grant received from the state aimed at preserving drinking water supplies. Overall, the state dished out $850,000 to 25 different communities in Massachusetts. "Water conservation reduces the demand on our natural resources and protects them from overuse," said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Richard K. Sullivan Jr. in a statement Tuesday. "These grants will assist communities in their efforts to protect water supplies and help …
