Officials commended the work of town emergency officials while questioning the responsiveness of National Grid and looking for ways to improve procedure in the future.
Board of Selectmen members agreed Monday night that the work of Easton's Department of Public Works, Fire Department and Police Department was commendable during Hurricane Irene and its aftermath last week, which resulted in numerous branches down, over 100 calls to emergency officials and loss of power for over 7,000 Easton households. Some members of the board, however, were not pleased with the response from National Grid. "You guys did a great job and I thank you for that," Selectman Todd Gornstein told Fire Chief Tom Stone, DPW Director Wayne Southworth and Police Chief Allen Krajcik. National Grid urges customers to call if they still don’t have power.

The company has been working since Monday to restore power to residents throughout the state, and originally more than 7,400 Easton residents lost power. As of 6 a.m…

Easton Emergency Officials said Monday that cleanup and recovery from Hurricane Irene's destruction could take at least a few days - and a lot of Easton residents will be affected as a result. Police Chief Allen Krajcik said that for some of the approximately 6,000 Easton households without power, the wait could be almost a week for National Grid to repair the damage. "It could be today or tomorrow for some, but some parts of Easton could be without power until Saturday," he said. Krajcik met with National Grid representatives in a conference call Monday afternoon along with fire and Department of Puplic Works officials. He said National Grid workers were in Easton and a priority list was being put together. Currently, Krajcik said, …

Start asking questions about the towns emergency preparedness/disaster response plan...Who has them, where they keep them, do town officials know where they are, what it says and has this info been passed down to all town employees. It was just over a decade ago that then town administrator was going door to door to check on residents..........There was a gaping void of leadership this time. I …   more ›
