A pipe from a wood stove caught fire, causing extensive damage to the house.
A pipe from a woodstove resulted in a fire that caused extensive damage and forced an Easton family to evacuate their home Thursday morning. Easton Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said firefighters responded to a call at 9:40 a.m. at 5 Twin Pine Lane. Nobody was hurt in the fire, but it wasn't easy to completely put out. "It was a little stubborn because it was in the walls and floors," Partridge said. "We had it under control in a short time." The fire entered the walls of the home from the basement where a woodstove was inserted into a fireplace. The pipe from the woodstove went up through the chiminy, but the hot pipe was touching a wood beam, Partridge said. "It started spreading through the wall up into a floor joist," he said. "It was …

The following is an article written by Easton Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Mills: As you drive through the town of Easton, it doesn’t take long before you realize that this is a rural community that is blessed with trees, farms, and beautiful landscapes. We are also blessed with multiple ponds, lakes and streams. As one of the town’s public fire and life safety educators, I frequently go to the schools and teach fire safety to Easton’s students. This year, we will also be educating our students on the very serious issue of Ice Safety. Almost every winter, our lakes and ponds freeze, and we, at the fire dept., field calls from time to time asking if the ice is safe or not. Let me be clear: THE ICE IS NEVER COMPLETELY SAFE. Our ponds, …

Captain James Walsh and Firefighter Richard Salve will be honored at the Massachusetts Firefighter of the Year Awards
Two Easton Firefighters will be receiving an award next week for their courageous actions during a fire last year that saved the life of an elderly resident. Captain James Walsh and Firefighter Richard Salve will attend the annual Massachusetts Firefighter of the Year Awards at Mechanics Hall in Worcester next Tuesday. The invitation comes a year after Salve and Walsh saved the life of Elise Circle resident Jeffrey Willis, who was found unconscious in his smoke-filled apartment Dec. 2, 2011. After being told that someone was still in the burning building, the firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to find their way through the smoke to discover the victim lying in the kitchen. They carried him out to the front lawn. The chief at the …

Submitted to Easton Patch by Easton Fire Local 2790: Yesterday, members of the Easton Fire Local 2790, along with some their families, delivered boxes of food purchased at Hannafords. This marks the 3rd year the union members have given to the residents of Elise Circle and Parker Terrace. This was the first year that we included 'File of Life' with every box. The File of life is a helpful tool used by people with extensive medical issues to inform emergency personnel of a patient's medical history, allergies and current medication in the event the patient is unable to relay that information. The forms come in a small pouch with a magnet that can be displayed in their residence on a refrigerator or door. The File of Life provides …

Negotiations for a new firefighters contract have stalled amidst allegations from the firefighters union that town violated collective bargaining rules.
Contract negotiations between the Town of Easton and the Easton Firefighters Union have stalled, and it is unlikely they'll resume any time soon. The Firefighters Union (Local 2790) recently filed a charge of prohibited practice against the town, alleging that Town Administrator David Colton violated collective bargaining rules by publicly discussing negotiations. Colton, and Town Labor Counsel Marc Terry deny any violation. The spar is set to go to a hearing sometime this spring or summer. According to the complaint, the Union alleges that Town Administrator David Colton violated negotiation ground rules, which state that "no public comment can be made about the substance of negotiations unless or until either party files for mediation." …

Easton, Attleboro and North Attleboro firefighters are all part of a regional dive team.
Four Attleboro firefighters have suited up and are making a splash as new participants of a regional dive team that also includes the towns of Easton, Norton and North Attleboro. Firefighters Dave Ventura, John Casali, Mike Maitland and Greg Luther, all who have open water certification, have joined the regional team. They recently trained with some of their neighboring firefighters at Attleboro High School's pool and Talaquega Lake. The decision to include Attleboro in the regional effort came after North Attleboro Fire Chief Peter Lamb asked Attleboro Chief Scott Lachance to use the pool at Attleboro High School for training. Lamb then called Lachance on another occasion to use a room at the South Attleboro station for classroom training…

An elderly Easton man is reportedly doing well after being rescued from an Elise Circle Fire earlier this month.
When Easton Fire Captain James Walsh and Firefighter Rick Salve arrived at the Elise Circle senior housing complex two Fridays ago, they knew an immediate response could mean the difference between life and death. A neighbor informed the firefighters that someone was still inside one of the smoke-filled apartments. "They began an immediate search for the victim in an extremely dangerous atmosphere," Fire Chief Thomas Stone told Selectmen Monday. "Without question they saved the victim's life." The victim, an elderly resident of Elise Circle's Building Six, who was found unconscious in the apartment, was immediately transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center by a West Bridgewater ambulance. He was later transported to Massachusetts …
