Julia “Jay” Kamel, 89, of Easton, formerly of Brockton for most of her life, died April 27, 2013. Born in Brockton, she was a devoted daughter of the late Sam and Annie (Peter) Kamel. She was retired after 35 years with ILGWU/UNITE as general manager of New England District Council and Local 24 Garment Workers. She was a spokesman for organized labor internationally especially for women’s working conditions. Julia served for 20 years on Brockton’s Redevelopment Authority Board. She enjoyed dancing in past years and won trophies as The Jitterbug Queen and also traveling worldwide. A faith-filled, caring and giving woman, she was dedicated to her family. Ralph M. Olsen, 79, a resident of Easton for the past 58 years, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, December 13, 2012. He was the husband of Muriel M. (Baggs) Olsen for 58 years. Born in Boston on March 12, 1933, a son of the late Alfred and Sylvia (Makie) Olsen, he was raised in Boston and was a graduate of the Boston Public Schools.. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as an A/1C in the US Air Force. Ralph was employed as a service manger for Fruehauf Trailer of Waltham. He was later employed as a real estate broker for Berry Real Estate of Whitman. He had also been employed with Bridgewater Camera. (McCarthy) Slein, 76, a resident of Easton for 44 years, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation-Sachem in East Bridgewater after a period of failing health. She was the wife of Richard F. Slein for 51 years. Born in Boston on May 15, 1936, a daughter of the late Eugene and Mary (Murphy) McCarthy, she was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School. An alumnus of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing and Boston University School of Nursing she worked as a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital and as a special duty nurse at area Boston Hospitals.
