The largely across-the-board level funding of the budget from this year to the next leaves little room for new initiatives within the district.
The Easton School Committee voted to approve a FY '14 operating budget of $35,093,471 at their meeting Thursday night. The budget represents a 4.04% increase from the current year to next year, an increase of $1,362,000. According to officials, the majority of the bump is largely due contractual increases and increases in the cost of special education. “We have major concern with substantial increase in cost of special education due to out of district tuitions and associated transportation costs,” said Superintendent Michael Green. There will be no school in Easton on Friday. Southeastern Regional also canceled school.
There will be no school in Easton on Friday. Easton Public Schools made the announcement to cancel school at approximately 5:30 a.m. due to the hazardous weather conditions left when a winter storm battered the Shovel Town Thursday and into Friday. Southeastern Regional on Foundry Street also announced that it would cancel school on Friday.

Easton students will get another extension on their weekend. Easton Public Schools are closed Monday due to continued storm cleanup and outages as a result of the Blizzard of 2013. The town joins Stoughton, Mansfield and Brockton as bordering districts that have canceled school to start the week. Southeastern Regional on Foundry Street is also closed Monday.

School will start next year after Labor Day and end on June 18.
The Easton School Committee is well on its way to finalizing the 2013-2014 school calendar. While professional development days have yet to be established and an official calendar has not yet been released, school officials were able to approve the start day, end day and vacation days for next year's school year. The school year will begin after an early Labor Day (Sept. 2). The next day, Tuesday, Sept. 3 is the first day for teachers. On Wednesday, Sept. 4, students in grades 1-12 will begin their school year. Sept. 5 is a day off for Rosh Hashanah. A letter was sent to all Easton Public Schools Parents. Procedures are in place, officials said.
Easton Public Schools Superintendent Michael Green assured Easton parents this week that officials are doing everything they can to provide a safe atmosphere during the school day. "On Monday of this week, we met with an administrative team and members of the Easton Police and Fire Departments to take a look at all of our district emergency plans," Green said. "We looked at areas for increasing communication with building access and monitoring within the building as well as the reviewing of safety procedures going forward with our students." So this past Saturday night I was watching a show on a sports TV network – and the show was focused on “turkey” moments in recent sports history. You know, when athletes mess up, and do things that aren't so smart. I mean, it was a hoot watching some of these mistakes. Like, for example, that pro football player running with the ball to the end zone, strutting and celebrating his impending touchdown, only to have a player on the other team tackle him before he made it to the goal line. Also shown were football players who ran for what they were sure was a first down – and after being tackled, they jump up and point forward, so convinced they are that they have "moved the chains," only to find out they have come up short. …

For second day in a row, there will be no school in Easton.
For the second day in a row, Easton students will stay home instead of traveling to school. Easton Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30 due to Hurricane Sandy, according to Patch's partner WHDH.com The call was made at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sandy blew through the Shovel Town Monday and is expected to continue throughout the night, with the most intense part of the storm coming overnight. As of 10:30 p.m., over 3,000 of Easton residents were still without power.

The weigh off for the Flynn's Family Farm Great Pumpkin Challenge 2012 Easton's Schools vs. Schools will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
When local farmer Todd Sandstrum set out to organize a pumpkin-growing challenge between Easton's schools, his goal was to bring agriculture into the classroom. Five months later, the Flynn's Family Farm Great Pumpkin Challenge Schools vs. Schools succeeded and blew away all expectations. "The project exploded much bigger than I thought it was going to," he said. "I thought it was going to be a nice project but it really took off much more."
