Oliver Ames Girls' Basketball Cruises to Victory Over Stoughton

Lady Tigers improve to 6-0 after 60-19 victory over the Black Knights (2-4).

It’s no secret that the Oliver Ames girls’ basketball team prides itself on having a good defensive effort. Once again, that approach paid dividends Friday night at the Nixon Gymnasium as the Lady Tigers cruised to a 60-19 victory over Stoughton and improved to 6-0 on the season (2-0 Davenport Division/Hockomock League). “It was top to bottom on of the better efforts in terms of their contributions,” said OA coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook. “We talk about playing as a team and having good teamwork and I was proud with how everyone performed tonight.” From the opening whistle, OA was just a step ahead of the pack. In what was the best all-around effort in the early part of the season, the Lady Tigers earned a decisive 82-32 victory over Plymouth South in the finals of the Sue Rivard tournament Wednesday night at the Nixon Gymnasium. “My feeling was this was the best collective effort since the season started,” said Clement-Holbrook, whose team is now 4-0 on the year. “The main topic of conversation in the dressing room after the game was the pure example of teamwork.” Thanks to the transition game, OA never trailed throughout the contest. The Lady Tigers stole the ball 22 times while also dishing …

Lady Tigers hang on for 43-37 season opening victory against their rivals.

As the old adage goes “a win is a win.” Despite a 10-0 fourth quarter run by Sharon, the Oliver Ames girls' basketball team hung on for a 43-37 victory Tuesday night in its season opener at the Nixon Gymnasium. OA improves to 1-0 on the young season, while Sharon drops to 0-2. “Wow, was that ugly,” said a relieved Elaine Clement-Holbrook after coaching her team to victory. “But, we got the victory nonetheless. We have a lot of work ahead of us but at least we’re 1-0 to start the year.” The first three quarters showed little sign of an OA letdown. During that span, the Lady Tigers forced 11 of the Eagles' 13 turnovers paving the way to a 36-17 lead. Although OA’s offense had trouble generating some points, the defense held Sharon to 20 …
