Joe Kennedy III Wins Fourth Congressional District Seat

Retiring Barney Frank will be succeeded by scion of Kennedy political dynasty.

Joe Kennedy III will be a new U.S. Congressman  from Massachusetts. At around 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press called the race for 32-year old Kennedy, who lives in Brookline, as he was beating by a 2-1 margin Norfolk Republican Sean Bielat in the race to represent the redrawn Fourth Congressional District. Rep. Barney Frank, a media celebrity Tuesday night at Kennedy's celebration party at the Newton Marriott Hotel, is retiring after serving the Fourth District since 1981. Yes, the Kennedys are a famous political family, but Joe III especially follows family tradition with this particular win: his father, Joe Kennedy II, served as Congressman from Massachusetts (in the 8th Congressional District) from 1987-1999. And his great-uncle, who …

The MA 4th Congressional District candidates took questions from the audience at their third debate at Wellesley College Oct. 15.

With healthcare and the economy serving as key topics, the two candidates vying for the Massachusetts Fourth Congressional District seat agreed to disagree often at last night’s debate at Wellesley College. Republican Sean Bielat and Democrat Joseph P. Kennedy III debated in front of a capacity crowd at Wellesley College’s Alumnae Hall, with both candidates sticking closely to the scripts of their respective parties. The debate, the candidates’ third, began with a disagreement on how Bielat and Kennedy would go about reducing the national deficit by $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years. Sharon Man Launches Congressional Campaign

Democrat Marty Farren seeks the Fourth Congressional District seat held by Barney Frank.

A Sharon Democrat is running for Congress to promote "a mostly honest look" at federal government. Marty Farren told Patch Friday night he's running for the Fourth Congressional District seat held by Barney Frank (D-Newton) largely because "there's a lot of what I see as slander, denigration of our federal government." A data analyst who handles large data sets, Farren is the latest person to announce their interest in the congressional seat. Joseph Kennedy III announced this week he's forming an exploratory committee. Frank will not seek re-election in November. "Our federal government does a phenomenally good job of the things that it does, and we call it lots of bad names," Farren said. "That's problematic. Because it means that it's …
