NRA: Put "Armed Security" Around Schools

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," the NRA's Wayne LaPierre said.

In an amazing Friday morning press conference, the National Rifle Association broke its weeklong silence following the horrific shooting of 26 people at a school in Newtown, Conn. and called for a surge of gun-carrying "good guys" around American schools. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre called for a new kind of American domestic security revolving around armed civilians, arguing that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." Question of the Day: Guns in Public

Should there be stricter laws regarding guns in public places like parking lots?

We'll be asking Easton Patch readers a different question every weekday. Questions could range from local decisions made by officials, to state issues, to national politics and entertainment. Whatever it is, we want to know what EASTON thinks! Yesterday at the Patriots 4 p.m. game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, a man accidentally shot himself in the leg with a licensed firearm. The incident happened outside of the stadium before the game. The man's injuries were not life-threatening. The Patriots told the Boston Globe that there are no official rules against having a licensed gun in a parking lot, however guns are not allowed inside the stadium. Should there be stricter laws regarding guns in public places like parking lots?

Jim, there are indeed "vermin" out there-everywhere-waiting to prey, and I am not against either legal gun ownership or licensing of qualified individuals to carry a concealed weapon. And I don't necessarily want laws constantly changed to include yet another instance.
