Kennedy: 'Honored' to be Sworn in to Congress

After winning the November 2012 election, Democrat Joe Kennedy III will now officially take his seat as the U.S. Rep. for the Fourth Congressional District.

Easton's newest congressman, Joe Kennedy III, was officially sworn in Thursday, Jan. 3 as a member of the nation's 113th Congress.  Kennedy, who defeated Republican Sean Bielat in November, replaces retiring U.S. Rep. Barney Frank in the Fourth Congressional District. Kennedy issued the following statement Thursday on his swearing-in: This afternoon I was honored to be sworn in as the next U.S. Congressman from the 4th District of Massachusetts.  The 4th District has a proud tradition of innovation and a work ethic that has fueled economic growth for generations. Bielat, Kennedy Spar in Brief Television Debate

The 15-minute debate aired on Fox25 Morning News earlier today.

Although they had just a few minutes to make their case, Fourth Congressional District candidates Joe Kennedy III and Sean Bielat touted their experience and ideas in a Fox25 debate earlier this morning.  The live debate, which was moderated by Fox25 news host Gene Levanchy, lasted less than 15 minutes. This was the final scheduled television appearance for Bielat and Kennedy before the Nov. 6 general election.  Bielat, a Norfolk Republican, is running against Kennedy, a Brookline Democrat, to replace the retiring Fourth District Congressman Barney Frank, of Newton. Claire Cronin Wins 11th Plymouth District Democratic Primary

Easton had a turnout of 2,442 voters, or 16 percent of registered voters. Voters also picked Sean Bielat and Joseph Kennedy III.

The next state representative from the 11th Plymouth District will come from Easton. Easton resident Claire Cronin won the Democratic nomination Thursday night in four-way field that included Brockton City Councilors Jass Stewart and Robert Sullivan and Southeastern Regional School Committee Chair Mark Linde. Cronin will face fellow Easton resident Dan Murphy, who ran unopposed Thursday, in the general election. "I’m very grateful that we had the result we did today and we’re just going to continue in the same path that we have all along," Cronin said. "We started with an eye towards November and we continue on with that plan." In a district that includes five Easton precincts and seven Brockton wards, Cronin won Easton with 60 percent of …

For David Schuler his is Town Spa in Stoughton, about 1,400 miles away from his Madison, Mississippi home. But that doesn't prevent Schuler, a Stoughton native, from enjoying a slice (or more) of his favorite hometown pizza. Schuler made headlines last August when he drove from his home in Madison, Miss. (north of Jackson, Miss.) to Town Spa and back again to pick up an order of 150 pizzas. He upped the ante this year by placing an order of 250 pizzas. Stonehill Hosts Fourth Congressional Candidate Forums

Joseph Kennedy III, Herb Robinson, Rachel Brown, Sean Bielat, Elizabeth Childs and David Steinhof were on hand to discuss jobs, the economy, health care and taxes.

Voters heard a variety of different views from both sides of the political aisle Tuesday night at Stonehill College in Easton when Democratic and Republican candidates for the 4th Congressional District squared off in separate debate forums. Editor-in-Chief of The Herald News and Taunton Daily Gazette Lisa Strattanand moderated the event, which was hosted by the Martin Institute at Stonehill. Questions came from a panel made up of WGBH Boston political reporter Adam Reilly, WCVB-TV political reporter Sean Kelly and Herald News editorial page editor Aaron Frechette.
