Joe Kennedy III will be a new U.S. Congressman from Massachusetts. At around 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press called the race for 32-year old Kennedy, who lives in Brookline, as he was beating by a 2-1 margin Norfolk Republican Sean Bielat in the race to represent the redrawn Fourth Congressional District. Rep. Barney Frank, a media celebrity Tuesday night at Kennedy's celebration party at the Newton Marriott Hotel, is retiring after serving the Fourth District since 1981. In their first general election debate appearance, Fourth Congressional District candidates Sean Bielat and Joe Kennedy III went head-to-head last night on topics including policy, job creation and social security. Easton makes up part of the Fourth Congressional. Bielat, a Republican, also focused on his opponent's resume. He argued that Kennedy, a Democrat, does not have enough experience for the congressional seat, according to a report today in the Boston Globe. Two-Alarm Fire at Canton Home The cause of a two-alarm fire that ignited at a home on Chapman Street in Canton Tuesday night was the result of an accidental electrical issue, Canton Fire Chief Charles E. Fire Damages Stoughton Home A Stoughton home on Winfisky Dr. is deemed a “total loss” by Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff after a heavy fire damaged the structure Saturday afternoon, March 24. The fire started at 2:01 p.m. at 49 Winfisky Dr., located in a neighborhood off Bay Rd in Stoughton. Stoughton, along with four other nearby towns responded to the scene. A total of six people live in the home. All five residents home at the time of the fire were able to make it out safely, as were the family’s four dogs. Kennedy hopes to create his own identity on the campaign trail.
After officially announcing on his webpage Thursday morning that he would run for United States Congress in District 4, Joe Kennedy III toured the area, making stops in Newton, Milford, and Attleboro on his way to Taunton and Westport. Support wasn't hard to come by for the newcomer in the race, who already owns a two to one lead over possible Republican candidate Sean Bielat, according to a recent Boston Herald-UMass poll released last week. "The support has been overwhelming," he said outside of Morin's Hometown Bar and Grille in Attleboro Thursday afternoon. "I’m greatful for it. I’m humbled by it."
