With Tribe Casino on Track, Commercial Casinos in Southeast Off The Table
Casino in Taunton, 10 miles from Easton is still drawing concerns from Easton officials.
Gaming Commission members say the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is on track to develop a casino in Taunton approximately 10 miles from the Easton border at the intersection of Route 24 and Route 140. As a result, no commercial proposals for southeastern Massachusetts will be considered, according to WBUR radio. But the tribe still needs to get federal approval to build the casino. “At the moment, the tribe is in the position to do what it has the right to do,” Gaming Commission Chairman Steve Crosby told WBUR. “If it gets the approval now or later, if the compact and goes through the land into trust process, there will not be any commercial license, period.” The Taunton Womponoag casino is still drawing concerns from Easton officials.
