The loss is the first for the Tigers, who are looking ahead to the state tournament.
The Oliver Ames girls' basketball team went into Wednesday night's Walpole Tournament championship game facing one final test before the Massachusetts State Tournament. They were certainly tested in more ways than one. A scrappy and relentless Medfield squad stood in the way of Oliver Ames heading into the state tournament unbeaten. The Warriors won the back-and-forth game, 61-55. The Tigers dropped to 18-1 overall. "It’s really too bad that somebody had to lose this game," Oliver Ames coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook said. "That’s just the way it goes. It’s not one of those things where everyone gets a trophy and everyone is smiling." The game was a rematch of last year's Walpole Tournament finals in which Oliver Ames spoiled Medfield's …

A strong first quarter propelled OA to a 14-6 win over Medfield Saturday
The Oliver Ames football team started off its season opener against Medfield with a red hot offensive attack and a stifling defense. While the Tigers cooled off as the game progressed, the hot start was still enough to earn them a 14-6 non-league win at Muscato Stadium Saturday. "I thought we were right on script in the beginning," Oliver Ames head coach Jim Artz said. "I knew what the first few plays were going to be; I thought they were going to be really good and they were. And then we just kind of lost that focus and didn’t finish." On just the second play from scrimmage, OA runningback St. Claire Ryan outran a Medfield defense for 61 yards to the end zone to give the Tigers an early 6-0 advantage. Later in the first quarter, after a …

OA came from behind to beat Medfield Wednsday night, 68-62 in overtime to win the Walpole Tournament
With 6.9 seconds remaining in the 4th period against undefeated Medfield, the Oliver Ames girls' basketball team was down 5 points, 57-52 with the ball under the Warriors' basket. To win the game or send it into overtime, the Tigers would have to execute each play, nail each shot, and have everything fall into place. Everything went stunningly perfect. The Tigers (18-2) came back to win, 68-62 in overtime Wednesday night to take the Walpole Tournament title for the fourth year in a row and propel themselves into the state tournament riding an incredible wave of momentum. "That’s what you want to have happen and that’s what happened," Oliver Ames coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook said. "It was unbelievable. I’m really proud of them because …

OA's recipe for success for was in full effect Tuesday night in the 57-29 win.
The Oliver Ames girls' basketball team has a solid recipe for success. Start with a stifling 1-2-2 press - with the outstretched arms of co-captain Candace Steadman at the top - shutting down the other team's point guard and initiating the trap. Add a great transition game, highlighted by Steadman's speed, guard Asia Mitchell's eyes for the court and forward Caitlyn Abela's shooting abilities. Top it off with a well-disciplined defense, experienced leadership from the likes of co-captain Emily Romans, and a bench that never fails to contribute. Never was the Tigers' recipe more apparent than Tuesday night in their Walpole Tournament opening round win over 10-5 Norwell, 57-29. While Norwell tried to take away Steadman and Abela, OA's two …

Sam Langson and Carlton Williamson combined at the runningback position to launch OA to a week-1 victory over Medfield.
The one-two punch of running backs Samuel Langston and Carlton Williamson coupled with a stout defensive unit led Oliver Ames football to an 18-0 victory over non-league opponent Medfield High School Friday night to open the 2011 season. “Sam Langston has matured, both him and Carlton [Williamson],” said OA head coach Jim Artz. “They showed that we can bring in either and have success.” Not only did the Tigers find success with their two seniors back, they found their offense as the Langston and Williamson combination consistently found holes in the Medfield defense and set the tone of the game early. On OA’s first possession, Langston ripped off a 45-yard run to put the ball on Medfield’s nine-yard line. Williamson took the ball on the …

A fantastic game from start to finish. The last 6.9 seconds in regulation were amazing for OA and a total shocker for Medfield. Five unanswered points to tie the game was a tremendous display of resolve by the Tigers. Great coaching and perfect executions by the players!! This team deserves fan support in their upcoming quest for another state championship.   more ›
