The Tigers came away with a 77-70 win Friday night in Stoughton.
Ryan Carney and Andrew Reardon led the Oliver Ames boys' basketball team in scoring Friday night at Stoughton, but it was the fourth quarter efforts of Nick Cidado and St. Clair Ryan, who scored eight points apiece in the final frame, that led the Tigers past the Black Knights. Oliver Ames came away with a 77-70 win, spoiling Stoughton's Senior Night. The Tigers improve to 10-6, clinching a spot in the postseason state tournament. The Black Knights, meanwhile, fall to 8-10, needing to win both of their final two games to make the playoffs. Winter sports will kick off next weekend and next week
We're moving indoors. Oliver Ames winter sports will officially begin this weekend when the OA wrestling team competes in the Easton tournament and the OA winter track team takes on Milford. Basketball, hockey and the rest of OA's winter sports will kick off next week. Tigers make back to back appearances in Div. 2 South Semis for first time since 1998 and 1999.
They might have had one less victory than a year ago, but the end result was exactly the same for the Oliver Ames boys’ basketball team. After going 15-8 in coach Don Byron’s second year in 2010-11, the Tigers finished with a record of 14-9 during the 2011-12 campaign. Those two seasons also saw OA advance to the Division 2 South semifinals in back-to-back years – something they haven’t done since the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. Much like last year in their loss to Hopkinton in the Div. 2 South semis, the Tigers fell to the eventual Div. 2 South champs in their loss to Stoughton last week in Brockton. Despite early tourney loss to Fontbonne Academy, OA's seniors leave strong legacy after four years.
With a record of 18-3, the Oliver Ames girls’ basketball earned its second straight Davenport Division championship going undefeated against the Small Hock, while also playing for their second straight Hockomock Cup in the Crossover game, that resulted in a loss to Franklin. With high expectations in this year’s state tournament, however, the Lady Tigers were shocked early in the first round of the Div. 2 South sectionals against Fontbonne Academy. “It’s really difficult,” said head coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook after the loss to Fontbonne on Feb. 29. “We hate to see this end because the team just loved each other.” Despite the loss, this year’s senior class has planted the seeds for the future of the program. Lady Tigers finish the season at 18-3 following 41-34 loss to Fontbonne Academy in first round of the Div. 2 South sectionals.
From the opening tipoff, the bounce favored 13th seeded Fontbonne Academy in its 41-34 upset over the fourth-seeded Oliver Ames girls basketball team in the first round of the Div. 2 South Sectionals Wednesday night at the Nixon Gymnasium. Tigers put together a complete game effort to out-battle the Black Knights
OA boys' basketball coach Don Byron knew that to beat the 13-1 Stoughton Black Knights, the Tigers would have to play well in all phases of the game. His team didn't miss a beat. Offensively, defensively, on the glass and from the free-throw line, everything clicked for the Tigers in the 75-67 Davenport Division win at Oliver Ames High School on Senior Night Tuesday. Tigers hang on to eliminate Eagles from state tournament contention.
Knowing that Sharon’s season was on the line, the Oliver Ames boys’ basketball team went into Friday’s contest at the Nixon Gymnasium looking to match that desperation. Despite the Eagles’ comeback bid in the fourth quarter, a last second shot from Ian Beach that would’ve tied the game fell short and OA held on for a 65-62 victory. Senior tri-captain reflects on joining the exclusive 1,000-point club.
In his four years at Oliver Ames, senior boys’ basketball tri-captain Nick Bruha has put together an impressive resume. As a freshman, Bruha helped the Tigers reach the state tournament under former coach Creig Muscato. Under current head coach Don Byron, Bruha has been the catalyst, was named to the all-Hockomock League and helped OA earn two more playoff appearances, including last year’s run in the Division 2 South Sectional semifinals. In front of a packed Nixon Gymnasium against King Philip Friday night, Bruha added to that resume and joined the likes of former Tigers Amos Anderson and Chris Tighe on the 1,000-point club. Canton surges past OA behind second half effort Tuesday night.
One team left Tuesday’s game at the Nixon Gymnasium with a huge momentum boost, while another found itself still stuck in a mid-season slump.
