Riding High, Oliver Ames Field Hockey Looks to Upset Sandwich Sunday

OA Field Hockey will play in the South Sectional quarterfinals in Sandwich at 1 p.m. The Oliver Ames boys and girls soccer teams will begin playoff action with home games Sunday afternoon and evening.

After a dominant performance on Friday night against No. 11 Falmouth in the first round of the MIAA Div. 1 South Sectional Tournament, the Oliver Ames field hockey is taking advantage of an extra hour of sleep Saturday night and setting it's sights on a new challenge: the No. 3 Sandwich Blue Knights. The Tigers will travel to Sandwich for a 1 p.m. game Sunday. The Blue Knights boast a 17-2 overall record, and a perfect 10-0 record at home. "They play on grass, so we are back practicing on our grass field and working on our stops and trying to set up our corners on grass which is a lot different than on turf, but we’ll be ready for them because we practice on a grass field anyways," Oliver Ames head coach Janice Sundell said. Oliver Ames Boys' Soccer Improves to 2-0 With Win Over King Philip

Tigers are off to a fast start in regular season play.

Just two games into the regular season, the Oliver Ames boys' soccer team has plenty of reasons to be optimistic. The Tigers, 2-0, defeated King Philip 3-0 Friday afternoon. With a 6-0 win over Whitman Hanson earlier in the week, OA has yet to allow a score and has already scored half as many goals (9) as it did all last season (18). "Two games – it’s great," Coach John Barata said. "I’m happy. It’s nice to start off with [wins], but I’m not overly confident yet.  We have a lot of work to do still."d Friday, The Tigers were propelled by a first half goal off the foot of Evan Coose with an assist from Zack Wyman just a minute and a half into play.
