Submitted to Easton Patch: “Life is a collection of moments.” Those were the words from Oliver Ames High School Cross Country Coach Neil Levine as he addressed his team on the first day of practice. On Monday August 27th his squad experienced one of those moments, as they hit the beach for their 13th annual Nantucket trip. At 6 a.m., 120 student/athletes and chaperones rubbed the sleep from their eyes and boarded busses headed for Hyannis. Alongside saltwater taffy stands, t-shirt shops and old fishing boats, they climbed up the gangway of the ferry to embark on their ocean crossing. “My first time on a boat was the Nantucket trip when I was a freshman” said OA number one runner Dan Moverman. Disembarking in the land of multi-million …

Something Tells Me That HDT Would Have Liked It Around Here
I have long been a fan of Henry David Thoreau and his writing. It seems I never have finished one of his books – that is read one completely. But the happiness and fulfillment I receive from reading bits and pieces of Walden or Faith In A Seed or Civil Disobedience is significant and helpful. Reading Henry David Thoreau – HDT to many – is one of life’s pleasures. Living in Easton, growing up here, one is fortunate and blessed in having around and available an abundance of conservation land – untouched nature, or nature lightly and moderately groomed and styled. If you think of the Frederick Law Olmsted designed spaces in Easton, they show the plan of artistically and pleasingly integrating the manmade and natural. Henry David …

Tournament announcements highlight week ahead.
Although the football team dropped its second straight contest in its loss to North Attleboro Friday night, last week was mostly a successful one for several Oliver Ames sports teams. The soccer teams both got some key victories and improved their chances for a higher seed in the state tournament; field hockey clinched a playoff berth on the last game of the year; volleyball ended the regular season on a high note; the cross-country teams finished second at the Hockomock League Championships; and the golf team concluded another successful season. Starting today with field hockey, the MIAA will announce its fall sports tournament brackets. Before we get into further detail on those, let’s take a look at the week ahead in OA sports. 1. Both …

Mansfield boys', Franklin girls', each claim league titles.
With cold, but reasonable running conditions, the Hockomock League cross-country championships proved to display some of the best running in the state Saturday at Borderland State Park in Easton. With five of the top twelve runners in the boys’ race, Mansfield earned its eighth straight league title with 44 points, while the Franklin girls team tallied 38 points for its second straight league title. They just hadn’t run well together on the same day in the same race. But today, our seniors helped us …
