Hockomock Football Recap: Thanksgiving Upsets, Comebacks, Blowouts and Nail-Biters

A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.

If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts. Thanksgiving marked the end of the season for nine of the teams in the league, but Mansfield (Division 2) and Sharon (Division 3) will head to the postseason, playing in a semifinal game Tuesday night, …

Yesterday was my first visit this year to an Oliver Ames football game, won convincingly by an inspired OA team. The football team deserves much credit, but the public address announcer should be ashamed of himself and embarassed as a representative of the High School and the Town of Easton. I don't know if the same individual announces yesterday's game all OA home games. Perhaps he is considered…   more ›

Oliver Ames Versus Sharon on Thanksgiving Day

Oliver Ames-Sharon football throughout the years on Thanksgiving Day.

When the Sharon High football team travels to Oliver Ames' Muscato Stadium to play the Tigers in a 10 a.m. start Thanksgiving Day, the Eagles will have already made history. Now, the Tigers are going to prevent them from going undefeated in league play. The Eagles (8-2 overall, 3-0 league) are the Hockomock League's Davenport Division champions and will be playing Pembroke in the playoffs Dec. 4. It is the first postseason experience for Sharon. With a win over the Tigers (5-5 overall, 0-3 in the league), the Eagles will wrap up an unbeaten season in the division. OA is 3-1 at Muscato Stadium this year. A year ago, it was Oliver Ames with the playoffs in site on Thanksgiving Day, but the Tigers will be looking to upset the Eagles …

Oliver Ames Football Falls in Heartbreaking Fashion to Canton

Tigers now 5-5 following overtime loss to Bulldogs.

In a game that featured several momentum shifts, the Canton High School football team got the last laugh Friday night against Oliver Ames for the second straight year. It took overtime this time to get it done, but Shane Nordgren’s 3-yard touchdown run in the extra period gave the Bulldogs their second victory of the season in a 36-30 triumph over the Tigers, who have dropped four straight after starting the season at 5-1. The win was a vindication for second year head coach Dave Bohane in a year where he’s seen his team drop in heartbreaking fashion to the two top teams in the Davenport Division: Sharon and Foxboro “Any of the small [Hockomock League] teams you can beat is an accomplishment,” said Bohane, whose team is now 2-6 overall and…

Hockomock Football Recap: Combo of Routs, Nail-Biters and Upsets Create Chaotic Playoff Picture

A recap of Week 8 football action in the Hockomock League.

While one of the Hockomock League's divisions has a somewhat clear playoff picture, the other is chaotic and wide-open, of course setting up what should be a thrilling final three weeks of the season. After week 8, Sharon, Stoughton and Foxborough have the most realistic path to a Davenport Division (small schools) title and with it a Division 3 playoff berth. The division title is based on a team's four-game division record at season's end. At 2-0 in division play, Sharon is in the driver's seat and Stoughton and Foxborough, both at 2-1, are right behind.  Sharon has a head to head win over Stoughton and Stoughton has a head to head win over Foxborough. Sharon and Foxborough play Nov. 10. With Mansfield and Franklin both losing in week 8…
