Fallen Limb Shuts Down Power for 2,000 Easton Households Late Tuesday

Power was out in the South Easton area for an hour and 20 minutes Tuesday night and early Wednesday.

If your alarm didn't go off at the right time Wednesday morning, you can blame bad weather and high winds. A tree tree limb fell across wires on Bay Road late Tuesday night, shutting down power for approximately 2,000 Easton households for one hour and 20 minutes. The tree limb fell at 11:53 p.m., National Grid spokesperson Debbie Drew said, sending workers to the scene. By 1:15 a.m., full power was restored to the area, she said. The outage affected mostly South Easton residents from Five Corners to Borderland State Park and in-between.

Still Without Power? When Do I Throw My Food Away?

Guidelines from the USDA.

For the many Easton residents who lost their power on Sunday as the result of Tropical Storm Irene passing through town, and still remain without power, how long is the food stored in your refrigerator or freezer still safe to eat before you have to discard it? The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service prepared a fact sheet for keeping food safe during an emergency, including losing power. The USDA says to "keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature." But, the refrigerator will only keep food safely cold for about four hours if unopened during a power outage, according to the USDA. Outages Could Last Nearly a Week For Some Easton Residents

National Grid is in Easton working, but restoring power for everyone could take close to a week.

Easton Emergency Officials said Monday that cleanup and recovery from Hurricane Irene's destruction could take at least a few days - and a lot of Easton residents will be affected as a result. Police Chief Allen Krajcik said that for some of the approximately 6,000 Easton households without power, the wait could be almost a week for National Grid to repair the damage. "It could be today or tomorrow for some, but some parts of Easton could be without power until Saturday," he said. Krajcik met with National Grid representatives in a conference call Monday afternoon along with fire and Department of Puplic Works officials. He said National Grid workers were in Easton and a priority list was being put together. Currently, Krajcik said, …

Question of the Day

Question of the Day: Dealing with No Power

How are you staying busy and dealing with the lack of power?

Cabin fever yet? If you live in Easton, there is a really good chance that you don't have power right now. It has been over 24 hours without power for most Eastonites, and National Grid has not yet given a time frame as to when power would return. Lack of power leads to many issues: Food in the fridge and freezer, hot water, and of course, boredom are all issues we encounter. How are you hanging in there, Easton? What have you been doing to stay busy and how have you handled the challenges that come with losing power?
