National Grid said it is ready to go with more than 500 crews in the event of power outages from Wednesday night's Nor'Easter.
National Grid, the electric utility that had hundreds of thousands of customers without power in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, said it is ready for Wednesday night’s Nor’Easter. The latest storm first moved in on Wednesday morning and is expected to last into Thursday with high winds, heavy rain and some heavy wet snow to the west and north. National Grid said it is ready to respond to any power outages that may occur as a result of the weather. There are more than 500 line and tree crews available and ready to respond to any storm-related outages, plus more than 200 “wires-down” personnel. Should the legislature pass a bill forcing power companies to distribute rebates to those without power for an extended period of time?
We'll be asking Easton Patch readers a different question every weekday. Questions could range from local decisions made by officials, to state issues, to national politics and entertainment. Whatever it is, we want to know what EASTON thinks! A local legislator has called for utility companies to take responsibility for extended outages. State Rep. Daniel Winslow (R-Norfolk) has asked the House Rules Committee to take action on a power outage rebate bill. According to a release from Winslow's office, the bill would require rebates to customers who go without power for more than eight hours. The rebate would be for two days of their average bill for each day the customer is without power. The bill, Winslow said, would incentivize …

Its easy to forget how reliant we are on our modern technologies.
It’s another brilliant day of sunshine in the aftermath of Irene, and I’m happily sitting at my computer, with blow-dried hair, and a cold yogurt and iced tea by my side. Last week, they were comforts that I never thought twice about, but today, what a difference. I spent only two and a half days without power, and yet I feel like I revisited the 19th century again, living the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder, on Little House on the Prairie. Well, maybe just a little. I wasn’t exactly wringing out clothes, or making home-made biscuits to cook in a wood-fired oven. But, I did spend a few hours buying ice bags, trying to keep meat and milk from spoiling. And for two evenings, I actually read a few pages of a book by candlelight. My eyes …

National Grid urges customers to call if they still don’t have power.
Local officials say that almost all Easton residents are expected to regain power today, four days after Tropical Storm Irene swept through the area. But that doesn’t mean everyone. And there’s no doubt that some officials are unhappy with the response of National Grid, the company responsible for providing electricity to town residents. “In my opinion they did not react with the speed one would expect after a major storm. Once they did engage they worked quickly, but that wasn’t until Tuesday afternoon. Not acceptable,” said Town Administrator David Colton late Wednesday. Whatever it is, we want to know what EASTON thinks! The storm has passed but there is still a considerable amount of damage. Yesterday, Easton Police Chief Allen Krajcik told Patch that it could be nearly a week until National Grid is able to restore power for the entire town. Thousands, however, did have power restored last night and this morning. In addition to the outages, many roads have been closed and debris has covered the lawns of many residents. The latest numbers from National Grid for the region.
National Grid released its latest outage numbers Tuesday afternoon, showing that 42 percent of Easton was still lacking power. National Grid said that of the 9,311 customers it serves in Easton, 3,945 were still without power as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Most of Easton's outages are in the Borderland State Park area and parts of North Easton Village. At its peak, 7,421 customers were without power. However, many had power restored Monday night and Tuesday morning in parts of South Easton and along the route 138 corridor. While Stonehill College had power restored Monday night, Oliver Ames High School had power restored mid-day Tuesday.
