Nor'easter Could Blow Through on Wednesday

The storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain late Wednesday into Thursday and bring wind gusts along the coast.

A little more than a week after 'superstorm' Sandy swept through Massachusetts, area residents may have to brace for another windy, rainy night on Wednesday.   A nor'easter could blow into the area mid-week and the storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain from Wednesday into Thursday, according to WHDH meteorologist Jeremy Rainer.  Rainer also wrote that coastal winds could gust between 40 and 60 miles per hour along the South Shore, Cape Cod and the islands, although winds "will be much lighter inland with this storm." The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a hazardous weather outlook statement on Sunday afternoon, saying that strong to damaging northeast winds are likely especially across Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island late …

Storm Brings About 2 Inches of Rain to Region

The wet weather likely will stick around all week.

Saturday's storm brought about 2 inches of rain to the region, with more coming. The region received about 2 inches of rain as of 10:26 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service in Taunton reported on its website. No local storm damage was reported. The upcoming week looks damp, too. There's a 50 percent chance of showers today [Sunday], the weather service said. Monday and Tuesday have a slight chance of showers, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday through Saturday of this upcoming week.

UPDATED: Irene Hits Easton Hard

Thousands of Easton residents without power as emergency crews work overtime.

Irene finally arrived in Easton - and she is wreaking havoc As of 6 p.m. Sunday, over 5,000 Easton residents were without power and emergency officials were working overtime to keep roads clear and restore power. "Keeping the roads open is our biggest priority right now," Easton DPW Director Wayne Southworth said Sunday morning. Southworth said the DPW had almost every employee working to deal with the storm. Fire and Police officials said that they had bulked up staffing for Sunday as well. Police Chief Allen Krajcik told Patch Sunday afternoon that over 100 trees had fallen throughout town and officials had spent the majority of the day clearing trees and wires from roads.
