State Police Make Several OUI Arrests on Area Roadways This Thanksgiving Weekend

The Massachusetts State Police increased patrols on Route 24 and ran a sobriety checkpoint in Norfolk County this Thanksgiving weekend, which resulted in a number of OUI arrests, other offenses and hundreds of citations.

  Massachusetts State Police Troopers made 20 OUI arrests and issued almost 350 citations on area roadways this holiday weekend - the result of increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 and a sobriety checkpoint in Canton, according to a press release from the MSP. The State Police deployed increased patrols on Routes 24 and 195 in southeastern Massachusetts, the evenings of Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 as "part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving on those roads," the MSP stated in a press release. Following Summer Surge, State Police to Continue Crackdown on Local Highways

After 90 OUI arrests and over 1,400 citations during a summer patrol surge, State Police say the will continue to crack down on impaired or erratic operators.

Massachusetts State Police announced Wednesday morning that while the nearly three-month patrol surge in Southeastern Massachusetts along Routes 24 and 195 may be over, there will continue to be a concerted effort to crack down on unsafe drivers. "Any time an impaired operators are removed from our roadways, our roadways are safer," State Police Troop D Commander Major Anthony Thomas said during a press conference at the Route 24 rest stop in Bridgewater Tuesday morning. The surge, which began in late July after a string of fatal accidents in the area, was focused on achieving just what Thomas described. 10 More Arrested for Drunk Driving During Sixth Weekend of Patrol Surge on Routes 24/195

Massachusetts State Police Troopers also caught three drivers going more than 100 m.p.h.

The following is adapted from a press release from the Massachusetts State Police to Patch: Massachusetts State Police troopers deployed as part of the Routes 24/195 Patrol Initiative made 10 more drunk driving arrests, including one for a sixth offense, during overnight hours this past weekend. The sixth weekend of the patrol surge also resulted in 14 other arrests, issuance of six criminal summonses and 263 citations for motor vehicle violations. Three operators stopped for speeding were clocked at speeds of 104, 107, and 110 miles per hour. After Four Weekends, Area Highway Surge Nets 65 Arrests, Over 1,000 Citations

Massachusetts State Police Troopers also made 12 other arrests and issued five criminal summons in week 4 of the patrol surge on Routes 24/195.

The Massachusetts State Police said last month that they intendended on cracking down on area highways, and they weren't kidding. After four weeks of a surge that puts 11 additional police officers on Routes 24 and 195, troopers have made a total of 33 drunk driving arrests, 32 non-OUI arrests, and issued 24 criminal summons. Troopers have also written a total of 1,094 motor vehicle citations. This past weekend, six drunk driving arrests were made. The State Police announced the surge last month after a string of area accidents, including one on the Easton-West Bridgewater line that killed a Mansfield teen. 530 Bags of Heroin Found in Car During Third Weekend of Patrol Surge on Routes 24/195

Additionally, eight drunk drivers and two drug traffickers were arrested in week 3 of the Patrol Surge, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police.

The following is from a Massachusetts State Police press release regarding the recent patrol surge on Routes 24 and 195: Massachusetts State Police patrols assigned to saturate Routes 24 and 195 during the overnight hours this past weekend arrested eight drunk drivers, and apprehended two other motorists who had 530 bags of heroin in their car. Another highlight of week 3 of the Patrol Surge was an arrest for operating under the influence (3rd offense) on Route 24 in Berkley. Two other arrests were for OUI 2nd offense. State Police Make 10 Drunk Driving Arrests, Issue 262 Citations in Second Surge Weekend

Police were in full force on area highways this past weekend.

In week two of a new surge plan put in place on Routes 24 and 195, State Police upped the ante. Troopers arrested 10 drivers and issued 262 citations on Friday and Saturday night for drunk driving on local highways; an increase from last week's nine arrests and 222 citations. The new plan was put in place last month in response to a slew of fatal and near-fatal accidents on Route 24, including a fatal accident in West Bridgewater near the Easton town line. 11 additional troopers were added to Routes 24 and 195 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. State Police Make Nine Drunk Driving Arrests in First 'Surge' Weekend

A new plan to increase enforcement on Routes 24 and 195 netted nine drunk drivers its first weekend.

  Massachusetts State Police announced in a statement Monday that they arrested nine drunk drivers in the area over the course of the weekend. Seven other arrests and 222 Motor Vehicle Citations were also issued. The arrests, police said, are largely due to a new plan put in place to add 11 additional police officers on Routes 24 and 195 between the hours of 10 p.m. - 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The plan was put in place after several of fatal and near-fatal accidents in the area, particularly on Route 24. One such accident ocurred near Easton's town border in West Bridgewater and involved a 19-year-old driving the wrong way on Route 24 at 4 a.m. This weekend was not without tragedy on area highways, though. State Police to Add Extra Patrols on Routes 24 and 195

11 extra troopers will travel the area overnight on Fridays and Saturdays in response to a slew of recent fatal and near-fatal accidents.

In response to a slew of fatal and near-fatal accidents on Route 24 in recent weeks, Massachusetts State Police are beefing up patrols in the area. State Police announced Thursday morning that 11 additional patrols will be on Routes 24 and 195 from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday into Saturday and again on Saturday into Sunday for the remainder of the summer. The extra patrols will be in addition to regular patrols out of the Middleboro and Dartmouth barracks. Police hope the additional patrols will crack down on unsafe drivers. Man Shot at Technology Center Drive Apartment Complex in Stoughton A man was transported to Boston Medical Center the afternoon of July 16 with a gunshot wound in the lower back, suffered at the Lodge at Stoughton on Technology Center Drive.
