Close to 400 participated at Borderland State Park
Close to 400 people participated in the Second Annual Outrunning Homelessness Race and Walk at Borderland State Park Saturday morning, enjoying an invigorating 5K run and 2-mile walk. The temperatures were chilly, but the turnout was fantastic, with about three times the number of participants compared to last year. The top finisher was Kevin O’Donnell, of Canton, who finished the race with a 19:47 time, at a 6:22/mile pace. The event raised approximately $20,000 for School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA), a nonprofit organization that provides school supplies and academic support to homeless children, including one-on-one tutoring. Easton resident Cheryl Opper founded the nonprofit organization exactly eight years ago, and she was …

Generously supported by anchor sponsor Crescent Credit Union with additional support from Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Cares and lead sponsors ABM, Brockton Animal Hospital, Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, E.O.M.S. The event will be on Saturday, March 24
Easton will be the fund raising headquarters for School on Wheels of Massachusetts on Saturday, March 24 when the charity hosts its second annual 4 vs. 4 basketball tournament. The event will be held at Oliver Ames High School beginning at 9:30 a.m. Last year, 28 teams participated in the inaugural tournament, but event organizer hope to exceed that number this year. Entrance fees are $150 and guarantee at least two games. Organizers are also in search of sponsors to provide beverages and snacks. There are two divisions - one which is highly competitive and one which is for "anyone who loves to play the game," event organizer Marty Weiner said. School on Wheels members met at Hilliards Thursday afternoon for ice cream and to discuss the upcoming charity bike ride.
Even though the ride isn't until September 24, the School on Wheels team is already getting into gear. Members from School on Wheels of Massachusetts gathered at Hilliards House of Candy Wednesday evening to eat ice cream and plan for their upcoming participation in the Rodman Ride for Kids. Hilliards owner Nelson Fernandes allowed the organizers into his business and even provided free ice cream. Fernadndes is a friend of School on Wheels Board Member Ted Myles. "Nelson and I are friends," Myles said. "If you can't hit up a friend for free ice cream, who can you hit up?" The ride, which begins and ends at Rodman Ford in Foxborough and consists of a 25, 50 or 100 mile tour, raised $8 million for various area charities last year, including …
