Letter to the Editor: O'Connell is Best for Business

Shaunna O'Connell is running for re-election for State Rep in the 3rd Bristol District, which will represent Precinct 6 in Easton.

Dear Editor: I have managed our business, New England Ice Cream for the past ten years in Taunton.  No elected official has ever reached out to me about how to reduce the government burden on our business until State Representative Shaunna O’Connell.  Not only am I a local business operator, but I am also the President of the Massachusetts Vending Machine Association.  Two years ago I took our business in a different direction and cut the vending machine sector because regulations were making it too tough to earn a profit.  If I had known at that time I was going to have an ally like Shaunna O’Connell at the State House, I might have made a different decision. Unfortunately, there are far too many people at the State House and within state…

I live in Taunton, and I have seen firsthand the great things that Rep O'Connell has accomplished in her first term in office. Her work with small business doesn't get the same attention that her work with EBT reform gets, but it is equally important. Then there is the work she has done that you never hear about, like her support of Veterans and Seniors. She has done more in two years than her …   more ›

Cronin Hopes to Forge Compromise, Bring People Together

Claire Cronin is running as a Democrat for State Rep in the 11th Plymouth District

When it comes forging compromise and bringing together parties, Claire Cronin is an expert. After all, that's what she does every day. "As part of my background I’ve been a mediator for 10 years," she said. "Often times when you sit back and you watch what goes on in government. As a mediator sometimes I see that there's ways things can be done that they’re not being done – both on a national level and on the state level." Cronin is hoping her skills as a mediator and experience as a public servant help get her elected as a State Representative in the 11th Plymouth District, which makes up Precincts 1-5 in Easton and all of Ward 1, Ward 3-D, Ward 7-C and 7-D in Brockton. A native of Brockton and current resident of Easton, Cronin is …

Dan Murphy to Run for State Rep

Easton Selectman will be the lone republican in the race.

Easton Selectman Dan Murphy (R-Easton) will officially be kicking off a campaign for State Rep in the 11th Plymouth District next month. Murphy recently submitted the necessary signatures to qualify for the race, and said he plans to move forward as a candidate. His kickoff event is scheduled for June 13 at Easton Country Club. Murphy said he decided to run after April 24's Easton Selectmen election when he and Colleen Corona were re-elected to the board. If elected as a State Representative in November, Murphy said he will stay on and continue to serve Easton as a Selectman. "I talked to all of [the Selectmen] and told them it was a possibility so they wouldn’t have to hear it from someone else," he said. "They were all supportive. I …

Dan is a great man. I have known him for years. I am a registered democrat but I personally like him. His work ethic, his commitment to the community and small business and much more. It's not going to be easy for him to win the race but even if he does not win, it's still a victory because next time everyone would know who Dan Murphy is.   more ›

Potential State Rep Candidate to Hold Meet and Greets

Brockton City Councilor will hold meet and greets.

Jass Stewart (D-Brockton), who is considering a run for State Representative in the 11th Plymouth District, will be holding meet and greets next weekend in Easton and Brockton. Stewart, who is currently a Brockton City Councilor, is looking into a run for the seat that Geraldine Creedon (D-Brockton) currently holds. The seat serves parts of Wards 7c and d; all of Ward 1, and Ward 3d in Brockton and Precincts 1-5 in Easton. Earlier this month, Creedon announced her retirement at the end of this term.
