Musical Events, Competitions and Other TEMPO News From OA

The Easton Music Parents Organization to host various events in the community.

On Friday, Jan. 25, Oliver Ames music students will be performing in the annual Tri-M Music Honor Society Coffeehouse.   Guests are invited to an evening of treats while enjoying the singing and playing of some of the high school's student performers. From folk to rock to classical, it's all at the Coffeehouse. The event will begin 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  Oliver Ames' premiere show choir team, Panache, will be competing twice over the next two weeks, hoping to continue their winning ways. First they will have a showdown at the Mill City Competition in Lowell Jan. 19, and then at the Central Mass Festival at Shephard Hill High School Feb. 2nd. OAHS TEMPO Parents Dedicate Tree to Janice Wheeler

Mother of Band Director Robert Wheeler remembered for her exemplary support

It took twelve years to accomplish, but perseverance paid off.   Members of the school’s TEMPO club, a parent organization for the school’s music programs, have long wanted to honor a special woman for all the support she gave to their sons and daughters.  Janice Wheeler, mother of OAHS band director Rob Wheeler, passed away 12 years ago, shortly after Rob graduated from Oliver Ames.  TEMPO members chose to plant a tree in her behalf, but had to wait year after year, because of school construction.  Finally, they were given the go-ahead to plant the tree this year, and they chose a tulip tree, which was planted last week right outside the entrance to the school’s music department.    Then, this Wednesday, they gathered all the TEMPO …

“Thoroughly Modern Millie” Will Be At Oliver Ames March 16-18

Submitted to Easton Patch: The Oliver Ames High School Music Department is presenting their spring musical production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” March 16th -18th at the Oliver Ames High School Performing Arts Center.  The talented cast includes includes Livvy Marcus as Millie Dillmount, Denali Bennett as Miss Dorothy, Jared Wise as Jimmy, Harrision Phelps as Trevor Graydon, Morgan Capodilupo as Mrs. Meers, Amanda Urquhart as Muzzy Van Hossmere, Max Cerci as Ching Ho and Brandan Griffin as Bun Foo.  Backed by a sensational group of over 60 singers and dancers along with a picturesque set, this production will entertain all ages with energetic song and dance numbers. TEMPO To Hold Annual Dessert Show

The event will take place this Friday.

  Submitted to Easton Patch: On Friday, February 3rd at 7:00 pm, the Easton Music Parents Organization (TEMPO) will host their Annual Dessert Show at the Oliver Ames High Performing Arts Center featuring performances from the award winning OAHS Show Choir and Pit Band Panache’; the award winning Jazz Band; Jazz Ensemble; and the Chamber Orchestra.  The show will also highlight performances from the Junior Show Choir Image as well as the Easton Middle School Jazz Band.  The Dessert Show is aptly named for its famous post-show dessert festivities, where all members of the audience are invited to the Oliver Ames Dining Hall to enjoy a wide assortment of delicious desserts, coffee and cold beverages. Oliver Ames Show Choir Grand Champion at Lowell Festival

OA took home the gold to make up for the disappointing silver metal from last year

  Submitted to Easton Patch: The Oliver Ames High School Show Choir and Pit Band, Panache’, received a Gold Medal and were named Grand Champions at the 11th Annual Mill City Show Choir Festival at Lowell High School Saturday. With an eye on making amends for last year’s disappointing Silver Medal and third place showing, the group worked hard to deliver a fabulous performance, wowing the audience and winning accolades from the judges. The performance opened with the swinging “Jet Set” from the musical “Catch Me If You Can”, with a solo by Samantha Cormier, followed by Marina McBride’s hit single ballad, “Anyway”, with soloist Jen Bourne. OA Marching Band Scores First Win

Band will be performing with King Philip Saturday night at OA

Submitted to Easton Patch: The Oliver Ames Marching Band and Color Guard traveled to Bellingham last weekend and won their first competition of the year. The group competed in the Blackstone Millville Chargers Music Fest 2011 on Saturday evening Sept. 24. Drum major Marcus Ayasse led the band and color guard onto the field on a beautiful warm night to perform Bach:for the New Millenium. The performance scored a Festival high 70.575 finishing ahead of Plymouth High School, Westmoreland High School from New York and Framingham High School. The group also were honored with awards for Best Music, Best Effort and Best Visual.
