Our Armed Forces Veterans Have Paid the "Price of Admission" to Our Free Society
I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God. Oath of Enlistment into the U.S. Armed Forces (As a prelude to today’s column, I am compelled to note that my reason for placing the Oath of Enlistment above is because of a post that my friend and fellow Oliver Ames High School Class of 1981 member, Jim “Kip” Kippenhan – retired from the U.S. Navy – posted on Saturday night on …

We'll be asking Easton Patch readers a different question every weekday. Questions could range from local decisions made by officials, to state issues, to national politics and entertainment. Whatever it is, we want to know what EASTON thinks! Veterans Day is a chance for us all to pay tribute to those who served. While many attend the Veterans Day Parade, others hang flags at their house and many call veterans they know. What do you do to pay tribute to veterans on Veterans Day?
Reflections on Civic Virtue and National Service
For many of us, when we think about military service and those who serve and our veterans, our vision is all too full of uniforms and armaments. We think of war and combat. Many enlisted in our military, among them many hungry to serve and defend their nation. Others were drafted – among …

DID YOU KNOW that on Nov. 11, the traditional Veterans Day Parade will begin at Washington Plaza at 11 A. M. Stops will be made at the World War I Tablet in front of the former North Easton Grammar School and then the Veterans Memorial Park. AND on Nov. 11, 1967 the Historical Society had an Open House at the oldest house in Easton, built in 1717 by Josiah Keith. This opportunity was provided by the owner Mrs. John S. Ames, Sr. and the residents at that time, the Robert Brown family.

If a veteran shows form DD-214 as proof of service, it could be risky because it displays the Social Security…   more ›
