Route 106 Bridge Work to Affect Easton Traffic

For a three-week span next year, Route 106 near the West Bridgewater town line will be closed. A detour route will be put in place.

If you live in the area of where Route 138 crosses Route 106, you may want to start planning out some alternate routes. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has plans to rebuild a bridge on Route 106 in West Bridgewater just over the town line that will have significant impacts on Easton traffic during construction. The project, which will occurr in the spring of 2014 at it's earliest, was presented in front of Easton selectmen last week, who approved the preliminary concept. "It’s not in Easton, but it’s going to impact Easton with a detour route," Easton Department of Public Works Director David Field said. "There will be some impacts for residents and businesses. Although, they can be minimized." Stantec Consulting …

Question of the Day

Question of the Day: Is Route 24 Safe? [Poll]

The stretch of highway between Stoughton and West Bridgewater has been home to two fatal accidents in the past week.

While Route 24 technically never runs through Easton, it is a major corridor for many of the Shovel Town's commuters. Recently, it has also been the home to some horrific highway accidents. On July 12, Angel Pina, a 12-year-old from Norton, along with two other Norton residents, were killed in an afternoon accident on Route 24 on the Stoughton/Avon line, just north of Easton. Over this past weekend, a rear-end collision in Stoughton sent two the hospital. Later, a roll-over accident in Stoughton sent another to Good Samaritan. Early Sunday morning, a Mansfield teenager and a Tiverton, R.I. man were killed in a four-car crash in West Bridgewater, just north of exits 16 A and B (Route 106). State Police suspect a wrong-way driver in that …

I drive 24 a lot. I think some consideration needs to be given to the fact that in one accident the driver was going the wrong direction getting onto 24. That action caused two deaths. The other accident involved a 12 year child in the front seat of a vehicle and not wearing a seat belt. The accident is reported to be caused by a tire issue, not the road itself and the death may possibly not have…   more ›

The suspected wrong-way driver and another motorist were killed as a result of the four-car crash, which took place at approximately 4 a.m. "We believe the driver was a 19-year-old Mansfield woman, but formal identification should be made by tomorrow," State Police said in a statement. "The Corolla rolled over after striking the pickup truck head on, and then may have been struck by another vehicle. The operator suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead on-scene." The other motorist killed in the crash was a…

Enjoy food, sports and games at the Charlie Horse

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Easton Patch will pick a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. You also appear not to see the point of substance in a review. The fact of the matter is that a review is a review and the Charlie Horse piece is simply not one. It is, however, an interesting story or, further still , an advertisement, but obviously not a review by any normal standard. Please find that, in my comments, I utilized quotation marks around the word "review" because the word appears …   more ›
