Two cats were in the house at the time but were not harmed. Two firefighters were brought to the hospital by Captain William David Myles for heat exhaustion and an ankle injury.  The initially call came in as a burglar alarm, but when the neighbor checked on the home she noticed smoke. Easton Fire Department Assists in Norton Fire That Displaces Couple

No injuries reported.

Another Norton couple has been displaced due to a fire that broke out in a Crane Street garage Tuesday night. No one was injured. Attleboro, Mansfield and Easton Fire Departments responded to the call. Taunton and Rehoboth Fire Departments covered the Norton station. At about 8:15 p.m., Lou Tenore let his dogs outside. When he went back inside, he thought he smelled his wife baking. When she said she was not, he shrugged it off thinking he may have a cold. Around 9 p.m. they heard a loud bang, thinking it may have been their cat knocking something over. Tenore checked it out and saw smoke in the corner of his garage. He told his wife to get the fire extinguisher and call 911. While she was doing that, Lou backed their two cars out of the …

The Sounds Of Easton

Crickets, Bullfrogs, Metal Tipped Cleats, Air Horns, and More

A light-hearted moment. Back on a summer evening in 2001, I was at a fundraiser for State Sen. Stephen Lynch (D-Boston) that my brother and his wife were hosting outdoors on the patio behind their home on Partridge Way down in North Easton Village.  It was an event to raise money for Lynch’s campaign in a special election for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.  (It has to be noted that the seat for which Sen. Lynch was running had been held for close to 30 years by Joe Moakley, a saint of a man, who had served with extraordinary passion and hard work for the people of Massachusetts, and our nation. Rep. Moakley passed away on May 28, 2001 from a blood disease; he was 74 years old.) Now, for sure, this section of town where my …

Ross, thanks for your great (and truly accurate) recollection of the sounds of OA football games at Frothingham. As a young boy, the sound of the OA player's cleats and their loud chanting scared the living hell oout of me. I can only imagine how it affected their opponents. And Putt Santos ... Easton's very own Keith Jackson. I'll never forget him. Or his distinctive voice.   more ›

Team Effort Helps Pull Easton Resident From Burning Car

Nathan Everett, Kenneth Bowman, and Michael McGowan all assisted in pulling Brian Endland from a burning vehicle Wednesday night. Edland remained in critical condition 24 hours later.

Summer Street resident Ken Bowman was expecting a quiet Wednesday evening. The retired Hanson firefighter and military veteran was planning on waking up at 3 a.m. to bring his granddaughter to the airport where she would compete at Disney World for the Hanson Youth Cheerleading squad. At about 10:30, as he was settling down to sleep downstairs with his newly trained puppy, Bowman heard a loud noise and saw a flash come from outside. "I thought it was thunder and lightning," he said. "I looked out the window and didn’t see anything, and I was about to sit back down and go back to sleep." What Bowman had heard was Center Street resident Brian Endland's 2007 Audi crash into a telephone pole on the front lawn. Edlund was seriously injured …

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all who helped save my Brother-in-law. I live too far away to be there but have comfort knowing there are still good people in this world that care enough for another human being whom they have never met and risk their own lives. I hear that he is now in Stable condition and will be in surgery on Monday. Thank you again and God Bless! Linda   more ›
