Election 2012: State Ballot Question Results

Voters made decisions on car repairs, assisted suicide and medical marijuana in the statewide election.

Question 1: Right to Repair Voters approved the “Right to Repair” ballot question, which would give consumers more choices when fixing a car in today's election. According to numbers on boston.com, 85 percent of voters approved the question, with 51 percent of the state reporting at 10:15 p.m. The initiative requires automakers to make computer software codes for repairs more accessible to independent repair shops and car owners by 2015. But in July, state legislators devised a compromise that would give carmakers until 2018 to comply with the new law, according to a Boston Globe report. By approving Question 1, voters trumped that compromise and enacted the “Right to Repair” act as written on the ballot. “Voters sent a clear message to …

Elizabeth Warren Wins U.S. Senate Seat in Massachusetts

Democrat Elizabeth Warren beat incumbent candidate Scott Brown in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race.

Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren has beaten incumbent Republican candidate Scott Brown for a seat on the U.S. Senate, according to the Associated Press. Warren is won by a margin of eight percentage points, 54 percent to 46 percent, making her the first female senator elected in Massachusetts.  An estatic Warren addressed a crowd of hundreds of excited supporters at the Copley Fairmont Plaza hotel in Boston on Tuesday night. "We did what everyone thought was impossible," she said. "We taught a scrappy, first-time candidate how to win." "You took on the powerful Wall Street banks and let them know that you want a Senator out there fighting for the middle class all of the time," she said. "And despite the odds, you elected the first …

Joe Kennedy III Wins Fourth Congressional District Seat

Retiring Barney Frank will be succeeded by scion of Kennedy political dynasty.

Joe Kennedy III will be a new U.S. Congressman  from Massachusetts. At around 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press called the race for 32-year old Kennedy, who lives in Brookline, as he was beating by a 2-1 margin Norfolk Republican Sean Bielat in the race to represent the redrawn Fourth Congressional District. Rep. Barney Frank, a media celebrity Tuesday night at Kennedy's celebration party at the Newton Marriott Hotel, is retiring after serving the Fourth District since 1981. Yes, the Kennedys are a famous political family, but Joe III especially follows family tradition with this particular win: his father, Joe Kennedy II, served as Congressman from Massachusetts (in the 8th Congressional District) from 1987-1999. And his great-uncle, who …

TELL US: Should Medical Marijuana Be Legal?

Question 3 on the Nov. ballot will ask about legalizing medical marijuana.

This November voters will be able to cast a vote for or against legalizing medical marijuana in the Commonwealth. According to WBUR, proponents have formed the Committee For Compassionate Medicine (Subtitle: ‘Yes’ for Massachusetts Patients). The opponents are at MaVoteNoOnQuestion3.com. Question 3 on the ballot reads: “A yes vote would enact the proposed law eliminating state criminal and civil penalties related to the medical use of marijuana, allowing patients meeting certain conditions to obtain marijuana produced and distributed by new state-regulated centers, or, in specific hardship cases, to grow marijuana for their own use.” So we want to know: Are you for or against bring medical marijuana to the state?

Generally, Democrats are better than Republicans on personal liberty issues and Republicans are better than Democrats on being fiscally conservative. Romney has neither of the good qualities of either a Democrat or a Republican. Kennedy and Bielat to Face off for Fourth Congressional District Seat

Kennedy and Bielat both had huge victories in the district.

After months of campaigning across a large and newly redrawn district, the pool of Fourth Congressional District candidates has officially been whittled down from six to two. Democrat Joe Kennedy III and Republican Sean Bielat will be the two names on the November ballot for the Fourth Congressional District, according to reports from the Associated Press. Despite the low voter turnout, Kennedy had a landslide victory against his two opponents, Rachel Brown and Herb Robinson, taking more than 90 percent of the vote according to AP reports.   "Tonight, I am honored to accept the Democratic nomination for the Fourth Congressional District of Massachusetts," Kennedy said in an emailed statement. "First and foremost, I’d like to thank the more…

He won this thanks to gullible Kennedy voters (at least they vote though) and other MA Dems who want to use him. If he wins he will be a pawn for all the social elite progressives in Massachusetts who pat him on the head and talk about his uncles. When will people wake up. Hopefully Bielat can win, even though Republicans are a lost party too. At least he is more conservative. Of course the …   more ›

Murphy Looks to Continue 'Enjoyable Experience' on Board of Selectmen

Dan Murphy looking to get re-elected after one year on the board.

For Selectman Dan Murphy, one year is not enough. The candidate, up for re-election at April 24's Town Election, is vying to keep his seat and stay on the board for another three years. Murphy, a local accountant, who runs Murphy Accounting Services in Easton and H&R Block in Easton, West Bridgewater and Brockton, obtained his seat for one year last year after former Selectman John Haederle vacated to take a new job in Washington D.C. Formerly on the Finance Committee, he easily won last April over Dave Nelson, 612-246. This year, he faces fellow incumbent Colleen Corona, as well as challengers Patrick Goodman and Michael Maloney. Of the four candidates, two will obtain three-year seats. Murphy said he has enjoyed his time on the board …

More evidence that Dan Murphy does not deserve your vote. He is nervous & striking out like a pompous child. Dan doesnt care about Easton. Dan only cares about Dan. Pat's got my vote. "Lastly, Michael Maloney is the fourth candidate. I haven't known Michael for long, mostly because he has lived in Easton for about nine months. There is a part of me that thinks his willingness to get involved in …   more ›
