It Could Be The Best Time Of The Year In These Parts
This being Labor Day, and it being a big transition in the year, I figured it appropriate to write as I did last year, another September and autumn cometh column. Yet, we have about three more weeks of summer, unless you don't know. Then again, soon enough the first frost will be upon us. Today sunset here is 7:14 p.m. On the final day of this month it will be 6:27 p.m. September is a great month, one of — as I frequently tout — warm days and cool nights. And it does seem that the planet is going through a warming phase, for whatever reason. Call me selfish, but if you live in New England, I don't know if this is all a bad thing. School is back in session, and at the secondary and post-secondary level, Easton has three schools: Oliver …

A look back at the week of Oct. 9 - Oct. 15
For Easton town officials, the most important news of the week came when they learned that Easton would received a $1 million MassWorks grant from the state to help with the revitalization of North Easton Village - including Main Street. Main Street's revitalization is part of what columnist Ross Muscato called the "North Easton Village Renaissance." On Easton's public safety front this week, police dealt with a slew of breaking and entering incidents into motor vehicles. Parkview Elementary School was also broken into over the long Columbus Day weekend. In anticipation to what will be the year anniversary of DJ Henry's death, the Pace University student newspaper released a special edition in his honor this week. Additionally, Henry's …

After first year, owners say they are working hard to make business a success.
Bright orange pumpkins and assorted mums are a captivating sight these days, while driving by Langwater Farm on Washington Street. And fortunately, the year has been a kind one for the farm, according to one of its owners, Rory O’Dwyer. O’Dwyer, who owns the business with her partner, Alida Cantor, and her brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Kate O’Dwyer, said the growing season has been successful, with ample sun and the right amount of rain. “The crops are really in good shape - we’ve had a really good season,” she said. The farm, which sells certified organic produce, is completing its second growing year and has expanded its offerings. This year, the farmers planted corn for the first time, and a lot more tomatoes and pumpkins. …

Eating Foods Grown and Produced Close to Home is Good For You
Yesterday, I saw the Oscar nominated documentary, Food, Inc. It is excellent, engaging, educational –and agitating. Directed by Robert Kenner, the documentary, as Netflix describes, “explores the food industry’s detrimental effects on our health and environment. Hi Ross, Its not just 'drugs' that cause hungry kids. you left out alcoholics, neglectful parents, mentally ill parents and of course downright abusive parents, and also the POOR. Further, the price of food is so high now that I spend $100 at the supermarket and come home with maybe 3 days worth of food. With the price of Gas and heating oil so high as well, and taxes through the roof, who has …   more ›
