OA is playing Franklin tonight at 5 p.m. in the South Sectional Finals at Gallo Arena in Bourne. The winner will play at the TD Garden for the state title on Sunday. It is the second time the two Hockomock League teams have met this season. On Feb. 6, OA defeated Franklin, 3-1. The Oliver Ames hockey team is in the midst of an exciting state tournament run. The No. 4 Tigers defeated the top-seeded Canton Bulldogs, 2-0, Wednesday to advance to the South Sectional Finals. Gametime for the finals is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Gallo Arena in Bourne against either Mansfield or Franklin. The winner of Tuesday's game will play for the state title in the TD Garden. Winter sports will kick off next weekend and next week
We're moving indoors. Oliver Ames winter sports will officially begin this weekend when the OA wrestling team competes in the Easton tournament and the OA winter track team takes on Milford. Basketball, hockey and the rest of OA's winter sports will kick off next week. Tigers record one of their best seasons since the 1980's.
Last season, the Oliver Ames hockey team did something that hadn’t been done since the 1980’s – advance to the Division 2 South sectional semifinal. One year later, under interim head coach Jim Sullivan, the Tigers made a return trip to the South semis where they fell to Franklin for the second year in a row back on March 9 in Bourne. With a record of 13-5-4 (8-2-3 Hockomock League, 5-0-1 Davenport Division) OA earned a second place finish in the Davenport Division behind perennial Hock power Canton and recorded one of its best seasons in recent memory. The Tigers beat Martha's Vinyard, 3-1 in the first round Saturday
On Saturday afternoon at Asiaf Arena in Brockton, the Oliver Ames boys’ hockey team advanced to the semi-finals of the Division 2-South playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Martha’s Vineyard. It may sound routine, but it was far from it. With the game tied at one in the third period, junior Corey McLaughlin caused the huge Tigers’ crowd to erupt as his slap shot through a screen broke the deadlock and gave OA a deserved lead. It was a remarkable time for the defenseman’s first goal of the season. The Tigers extended the lead with 3:36 remaining when Tyler Provost tapped in a power play goal and eased the nerves on the bench and in the bleachers. The Oliver Ames hockey team scored four third period goals beating Stoughton 7-0 on Saturday.
Leading 3-0 heading into the final period, the Oliver Ames Hockey team tripled its lead in the first five minutes of the third, beating Stoughton for the second time this season. The Tigers went on to score their last goal in the final minute of play, handing the Black Knights a 7-0 loss Saturday at the Asiaf Arena in Brockton. OA improves to 9-3-3, while Stoughton falls to 1-13-1. Oliver Ames held a 1-0 advantage after the first period, with Alex Weibeler scoring the goal. Weibeler led the Tigers with 2 goals and 2 assists on Saturday. Derek Johnson and Dylan Burns scored the two second period goals.
