Southeastern Regional Faculty to Face Harlem Superstars

A team of Southeastern Regional faculty members will face the Harlem Superstars at the school April 11.

Both school and community members will enjoy “Comedy Basketball at its Best” when the Harlem Superstars play against the Southeastern Dream Team of students, teachers and staff. The fundraising event will be held on Wednesday, April 11, at  6 p.m. at the high school gym on 250 Foundry St., South Easton.  The event is a collaboration of students from Marketing, Design and Visual Communications (DVC), Video Production and Graphics. Marketing students are taking an active role in organizing, promoting, selling tickets and running the event. Sheep Pasture Project a Natural Fit for Easton Eagle Scout

Southeastern Regional Student volunteered at the NRT Sheep Pasture.

Seventeen-year-old Jacob Jennings has always loved plants and trees, so when it came time to choose his Eagle Scout project, he knew exactly where to go. He approached the director of the Natural Trust Resources in Easton, his hometown, to see if he could work on an outdoor project. The timing was perfect.  The nonprofit organization had just received a grant to build four raised garden beds next to the Carriage House, at Sheep Pasture.  NRT Director Jen Cummings had some blueprint plans for the layout, which included four raised beds in the middle of an open yard and a narrow garden area along the side of the building. Southeastern Regional Girls Basketball Coach Retires After 31 Years

Longtime Coach James Carini Retires.

The season has just ended for the girls’ basketball team at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, however, more than just another season- it is the end of an era.  This year their devoted coach, James Carini, retires. It all started 31 years ago when Carini joined Southeastern Regional.  He had always loved basketball, having played in high school and college, and agreed to “temporarily” fill in as coach of the girls’ team before becoming the boys’ permanent coach.  While coaching the girls, he soon noticed their keen eagerness to listen and learn the game.  He observed their strong work ethic and that whether they won or lost, they …

Southeastern Cosmetology Offers Glamour on a Budget

The salon is open two mornings a week.

Pamela French is on a strict budget, but she also likes to get her hair done regularly. She’s found the perfect solution:  the Cosmetology Salon at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in Easton. Open two mornings a week, the salon is staffed by junior and senior students, who are overseen by their instructors.  The students cut, color, perm and style hair. They also provide a variety of spa services, including manicures, pedicures, facials, and make-up applications, at a very reasonable price.  “I think they do a good job, and I like talking them.  They are very friendly, and they have interesting things to say,” said French, who lives in Foxborough. Submitted to Easton Patch: On Thursday, Deana’s Educational Theater will be perfoming The Yellow Dress at the Southeastern Regional High School to help students and the school community  better understand and deal with the problems surrounding dating violence.  The Yellow Dress is a powerful and dramatic one-woman play that tells the story of a young woman who is involved in an abusive dating relationship.  The relationship begins as young love, full of passion and promise and quickly spirals downward until its tragic conclusion.  The play helps the students identify the warning signs of abusive behaviors, understand the unique aspects of teen dating violence, and learn how to help friends involved in such situations.    The Yellow Dress …

During Emotional Night at Southeastern Regional, OA Boys' Hoops Comes Away With Victory

In game dedicated to slain Southeastern graduate, James "Dougie" Ortiz, Tigers edged the Hawks 64-48.

  Fans crowded the Southeastern Regional High School gymnasium Tuesday night during the boys' basketball game against Oliver Ames to pay tribute to 2010 graduate James "Dougie" Ortiz, who was murdered in Brockton last August. Southeastern Coach Dean Duquette thought dedicating the game to Ortiz was fitting. And, despite the 64-48 loss, he was proud to see the standing-room only crowd come out to support a fallen classmate. "A lot of my guys come back to hang out," Duquette said. "They’ll come back on a Saturday when everyone’s around so I just wanted to do something for his family. Sometimes, when they leave you don’t know how good of a guy they were." Southeastern Student, School on Wheels Volunteer, Wins $5,000 Scholarship

Tayler Sabella, a senior at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, was surprised with a $5,000 scholarship for college in a special surprise ceremony at the Massachusetts Statehouse.

(She thought she was just on a tour of the statehouse with a nonprofit group she is a part of – School on Wheels). Her scholarship is part of the Sun Life Rising Star Awards Program. Southeastern Regional Awarded $25,000 State Enhancement Grant

Grant will be for After-school and Out-of-school programming

Submitted to Easton Patch: Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School is delighted to have been awarded a $25,000 After-School and Out-of-School Time (ASOST) Quality Enhancement grant from the Massachusetts Department of Education. Southeastern Regional received the maximum grant amount and is one of 60 organizations in the state to receive the grant. The State’s ASOST grant program provides students in grades K-12 with high quality after-school and out-of-school time programs and services. Through these grants, local entities across the Commonwealth are able to enhance ASOST programming that supports the academic, physical, social, and emotional wellness of public and non-public school-age youth during the school year and …

Want to know how to change your oil? perform a manicure? bake cookies? Patch is here to help. And, so are the students at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. The students at Southeastern Regional will display their expertise from week to week while teaching you how to perform various tasks. This week, you'll see how easy it is to conduct a scientific experiment with basic products you have in your home. Joe Hazel, a freshman from Easton and Adrian Niles, a freshman from Brockton will teach us how to extract DNA from strawberries. Hazel and Niles are under the direction of Southeastern biology teacher Steve Mccabe.
