Sewer Betterments an Issue of Contention for North Easton Villagers Outspoken residents made it clear to Easton selectmen Monday night that they are not happy with the price they'll pay in betterments for construction associated with the North Easton Village Wastewater Treatment Project. Selectmen unanimously approved estimated betterment assessments for the 88 parcels in the district. Selectman Todd Gornstein was not present. The average single family homeowner in the district received an estimated assessment of $20,900. Particularly large houses, multi-family homes or commercial properties received a higher estimated assessment. Easton’s Brennan Williams Taken in Third Round of NFL Draft Brennan Williams was selected by the Houston Texans in the third round of the National Football League Draft Friday night. Williams was the 89th player selected overall. An offensive tackle from the University of North Carolina. Williams was projected to be taken some time between the second and fourth round of this year's draft. Williams' roots are right here in the Shovel Town. The 6-6 315 pound lineman is a native of Easton and a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School. His father, Brent, played 11 years in the NFL as a defensive lineman, including a stint with the New England Patriots. Oliver Ames baseball took on Stoughton at Frothingham Park Monday afternoon, securing a 9-5 win. With the win, OA improved to 6-0 overall while Stoughton dropped to 3-4.

New Deal Close For Nearby Casino, Governor Says Governor Deval Patrick and the Mashpee Womponoag Tribe reportedly close to finalizing an agreement for a $500 million casino 10 miles from Easton on the intersection of Route 140 and Route 24 in Taunton. Patrick said Thursday that his administration has reached an agreement-in-principle on a revised casino compact with the Mashpee Womponoag tribe, according to the Boston Herald. Synagogues in Stoughton, Brockton, Randolph Looking to Merge A Tri-Congregational Discussion on Regionalization for three local synagogues was held on Thursday, Feb. 14 at Temple Beth Emunah in Brockton. Representatives of Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton and Temple Beth Am in Randolph also attended the meeting, which attracted over 250 interested parties. The plan, still in the discussion phase, is for these three temples to merge into one congregation and use an interim site (Temple Beth Emunah) until a new building is constructed. The recommendation to merge, and begin attending services at the interim location in July of 2014 is not finalized. Each of the temple’s congregations still needs to vote on the plan. The vote is …

According to Oliver Ames girls' basketball coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook, who has won two state titles in the past seven years, there is much more work to do. "That’s what’s so amazing about this group of kids," she said after the Tigers beat Stoughton, 65-17, on Senior night Friday to finish the regular season undefeated. "It’s hard for me to put my finger on it. I had this discussion with them before we came out tonight. Senior night can be kind of emotional and it’s the end of something. Oliver Ames Senior Passes Away Suddenly The Oliver Ames High School community is mourning the death of a student. Devin Ness, a senior at the high school, tragically died Friday morning. Ness, who was a captain for the Oliver Ames wrestling team, suddenly became sick last night, according to OA athletic director Bill Matthews. He was taken to the hospital where he passed away. "He did die of an aneurysm," Oliver Ames Principal Wes Paul said. "He was dog sitting for his cousins in West Bridgewater. He didn’t feel well and next thing you know he wasn’t doing well at all and they called an ambulance . He went to the hospital.
