Grew up in New Jersey, went to college in Iowa (Grinnell) and did Ph.D. at U Cal Berkeley (Go Bears!). Worked at many colleges as historian, and early instructor and researcher on information technology and society-- Trinity (Hartford), Clark, UNH, BU, SUNY/Buffalo, U London, U Liverpool, U San Diego.....Four books, 100+ other publications. Did career change to Digital Equipment Corp, where managed multi-million dollar R&D budget at numerous US universities - and continued to do research and teach. After DEC developed strong interest in healthcare information technology and provided telemedicine and telehealth advisory services to the US Government, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Dell and Avnet.

Directed a photo/oral history project on Vietnamese refugees at Camp Pendleton in California featured on NPR and at many exhibits. Has done photography for many companies and won prizes in national and international contests. Contributes to many rail websites, including Ron Goodenow's Attic http://www.trainweb.org/theattic/ and the extensive gallery of phots as the Friends of Amtrak site: http://www.trainweb.org/crocon/amtrak.html

Now more or less retired and focusing on photography and travel. Special interests, aside from trains, include nature photography, real estate photography and general imaging services -- scanning, photo restoration, post cards, etc. Wife (Dr. Carol Goodenow, Director of Coordinated School Health Program a Mass Dept of Elementary and Secondary Educ) of 45 years, two daughters (Algonquin grads), two grand kids. Active Rotarian. Past-president Northborough Rotary Club, now member of Rotary Club of Westborough and on Board of Directors of Project GEMINI, a joint Rotary-Umass Med international program.
